PC Optimizer

I was wondering if you guys use an optimizer on your PC and if you do does it help? What brand do you use?

No, and this sort of software should be avoided like the plague, particularly if it has a "registry cleanup" component that runs by default.


My opinion is that these programs are the proverbial snake oil.

agreed, avoid all programs like that,


most are scams and will do more harm then good

Optimisers, registry cleaners, boosters, etc never work. If you have a slow system betetr to try clearing out temp files in a more targeted way, and then by hand on a case by case basis: removing unused programs, killing off un-necessary startup and background tasks, freeing up hard-drive space, removing malware/junkware/adware/pre-installed-bloatware, turning off un-necessary operating system features and un-necessary options in programs you commonly use. The important thing is that most of these tasks need some careful decisions beforehand about "do I really need X or can I disable it" and these aren't the sort of things you can just delegate to a program which claims to do all the cleaning for you.

My systems:2 laptops, intel i3 processors, windows 8.1 installed on the hard-drive and linux mint 17.3 MATE installed to USB
