Hi! I have gotten myself into an interesting situation and I hope someone has experienced this before...
I am working with an emachines computer xpsp2 media center edition. My Internet Explorer start and search pages were set to MSN and Emachines start pages. I wanted to change to google. Every time I changed my start/search pages they would eventually revert back to the default settings. So I used Spybot s&d to change the default settings to google. Now spybot is working constantly to keep IE from changing its default pages back! And I have been banned from even opening internet settings on IE! A window comes up saying to contact my administrator! But I am administrator!! Please HELP!!??!!

unless you have paid for it uninstall spybot because you can reinstall it later after you have sorted the first problem out, if you have problem with programs blocking you now, reboot into safe mode and uninstall from there

to help you though I will need details like what comp, what os, what age, etc.,

Are you using any other tweaking or internet utilities on your system? It may be that they're fighting for control over this setting.
My browser caused a flood of traffic, sio my IP address was banned. Hope to fix it soon. Will get back to posting as soon as Im able.

Yes! Thanks!!!! I had changed the start/search pages on Counterspy and I had the same pages locked against changing with Spybot S&D, so they were in constant conflict with each other. I changed Spybot, and it seems ok now.
However, according to Counterspy, my default start and search pages are still unchanged:
Start Page
IE default URL/site:http://www. msn.com
Search Page
IE default URL/site:http://www. microsoft.com/isapi/redir.dll?prd=ie&ar=iesearch
Local Page
IE default URL/site:http://home.microsoft.com/search/lobby/search.asp
Customize Search
IE default URL/site:http://ie.search.msn.com/{SUB_RFC1766}/srchasst/srchcust.htm

I think I got rid of the emachines start page. But is there any way to change the default settings off msn? Or am I forever locked into these default settings???

Thanks for your help!

Change the settings in Counterspy that protect the start page you want to change.

I'd suggest uninstalling all of your tweaking/internet utilities of this nature.

Then, get it working.

Then, install only one of the utilities.
