I would like to remove Tauscan totally from my system since I uninstalled it a long time ago but my TeaTimer still detects it. I also have a few adwares that I know of that I would like to remove as well, SurfSideKick, New Dialer, Viewpoint, and one more. I also think I have an open port that shouldn't be opened.

Hello deuce23 and welcome to the BC HijackThis forum. I do not see any viruses or malware in the log. It is clean.

There is some housekeeping we can do to clean up some obsolete entries so let's do that while you are here.

We need to disable TeaTimer so it soes not interfere with the changes we are going to make.
  • Start Spybot-S&D.
  • Go to the Mode menu, and make sure Advanced Mode is selected.
  • On the left hand side, choose Tools and then click on Resident.
  • Uncheck Resident TeaTimer and choose OK for any further prompts.
  • Restart your computer.
Now start HijackThis and click the Scan button to perform a scan. Look for the following items and click in the checkbox in front of each item to select it:R3 - URLSearchHook: (no name) - ~CFBFAE00-17A6-11D0-99CB-00C04FD64497} - (no file)
O3 - Toolbar: (no name) - {E0E899AB-F487-11D5-8D29-0050BA6940E3} - (no file)
O16 - DPF: {9A9307A0-7DA4-4DAF-B042-5009F29E09E1} -

Now close ALL open windows except HijackThis and click the Fix Checked button to finish the repair.

Ok, you can now reboot the machine and re-enable TeaTimer if you wish.

Cheers.

Thanks for the reply but there has to be some malwares on the log because my XoftSpy still detects the following:

Viewpoint
Media Motor
New Dial
SurfSideKick

And from using the search function, SurfSideKick needs to be removed via HijackThis. Media Motor and New Dial are bad too and can lead me to spoof pages so they have to be removed.

I did exactly what you said and here is my new log, but I'm still detecting Media Motor and New Dial. SurfSideKick somehow disappeared.

Hi deuce23. It doesn't appear that those 3 items were removed. Was TeaTimer disabled? If so, then it might need to be removed completely to remove those items.

As for XoftSpy, it has long been on a list of rogue applications that produce false positives. Depending on what it is saying it is finding and where it is finding it it might or might not be bad. Post the XoftSpy report back here and I'll take a look.

Cheers.

I did exactly as you said step by step, so how would I go about removing it completely?

The items listed that XoftSpy found have disappeared one by one but they were detected as adwares and posed a severe risk and/or potentially unwanted. I don't remember the address but it contained sys and runddll or something like that. Whether it's producing false positives or not, what I do know is that Windows started taking forever starting up ever since those adwares were detected so I'm pretty sure it's all linked to my problems. I ran today and for the first time I saw this:

A problem has been detected and Windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer.

If thiws is the first time you've seen this stop error screen, restart your computer. If this screen appears again, follow these steps:

Disable or uninstall any antivirus, disk defragmentation or back up utilities. Check your hard drive configurations and check for any updated drivers. Run CHKDSK /F to check for hard drive corruption, and then restart your computer.

Technical information

*** STOP: 0x00000024 (0x001902FE, 0xB9739B6C, 0xB9739868, 0xF7346746)

*** Ntfs.sys - Address F7346746 base at F7335000, DateStamp 41107eea

Beginning dump of physical memory
Physical memory dump complete

Contact your system administrator or technical support group for further assistance.

I question if this is even real because I don't even have a F drive and why would it tell me to uninstall such vital programs?

Hi deuce23. Oh yes, that information is very real. It is not telling you to check the F disk, the /F is a switch to fix any errors found. The error message you are seeing is caused by errors on the hard drive. They can be caused by corrupted files or by a hard drive that is beginning to fail. Ntfs.sys is the file driver for Windows' ntfs file system.

Follow those directions. Click Start->Run and in the editbox type "chkdsk /f" (no quotes) and click "Ok" to run the command. Follow any prompts given by the utility when it is running. Before running it, physically disconnect the computer from the internet and disable or uninstall any of the mentioned utilities because they could interfere with any of the repairs that might need to be made.

Post back when that is done and we'll go about removing the previous entires.

Cheers.

Hi OT, I really appreciate your help. I tried what you said to do but it said this:

The type of the file system is NTFS.
Cannot lock current drive.

Chkdsk cannot run because the volume is in use by another process. Would you like to schedule this volume to be checked the next time the system restarts? (Y/N)

What should I do?

Hi deuce23. Choose "Y" so the scan can start when the system boots up and then reboot the system.

Cheers.

Hi deuce23. The problem was that the disk was corrupt. It appears that both the java installation and AVG Anti-Spyware may have been affected. Here's what I would do:

Try and remove both java and AVG Anti-Spyware through Add/Remove Programs in the Control Panel. The installations might fail because the current installations could be corrupt. If the uninstallations do fail, just continue on.

Now reinstall both applications. The latest version of java can be found here: http://java.sun.com/javase/downloads/index.jsp and the latest version of AVG Anti-Spyware can be found here: http://free.grisoft.com/doc/20/lng/us/tpl/v5

Cheers.

I did what you said but it still seems my system is still acting slow. I scanned my computer with XoftSpy and found this:

Hi deuce23. The Xoftspy display doesn't say what the value of the registry key is that Sfonditalia points to. If it was 4, it was probably placed there by Spybot S&D and was placed in the restricted sites zone. It's part of Spybots Immunize feature to prevent the browser from going to that domain. Basically, Xoftspy removed the restriction.

You can verify this by checking in Spybot's Immunize section to see if it recommends immunizing because there are items in it's list of blocked sites that are no longer blocked anymore.

Cheers.

I see...so before you said that Xoftspy isn't a very good program so what program do you suggest I replace it with?

Back to the HJ log, how would I manully remove those things?
