Hi,

I need an IDE to SATA converter for a few hard drives I have. Been looking at ebay and aliexpress. I come across these things:

https://www.aliexpress.com/item/New-1pcs-High-Quality-IDE-HDD-to-SATA-Serial-ATA-Adapter-Converter-Drop-Shipping-free-shipping/32835964716.html?spm=2114.search0104.3.31.497972e8nHzsjG&ws_ab_test=searchweb0_0,searchweb201602_4_10152_10151_10065_10344_10130_10068_10342_10547_10343_10340_10548_10341_10696_10084_10083_10618_10307_10131_10132_10133_10869_10868_10059_100031_10103_10624_10623_10622_10621_10620,searchweb201603_2,ppcSwitch_5&algo_expid=e0204b13-cb89-4c95-9409-44fdb372c4f0-4&algo_pvid=e0204b13-cb89-4c95-9409-44fdb372c4f0&transAbTest=ae803_1&priceBeautifyAB=0

If you look at the picture it shows that it uses 2 power connections shown. One directly to the converter and one to the ide drive itself. Is this just showing there are 2 methods to power the hard drive or that in order to  use this converter you need to plug the power in both ports?

Also, it looks like the converter has 2 SATA ports. Why does it have 2, so I can plug into 2 computers at the same time???

The circuitry on the board needs power, as well as the supply to the drive(s) being used.

An IDE channel can address two drives, Drive 0 and Drive 1 sometimes referred to as Master and Slave, so 2 SATA drives can be used on one IDE interface.
