Hi all!

Since Windows Defender 10 Antivirus now is so well-integrated in Windows 10, if one instead is using a 3rd-party Antivirus, should it be uninstalled while upgrading to bigger versions of the said OS, in order for the OS-upgrade to be properly performed?

Thank you very much in advance!

There is no definitive answer to this as you know. Some say uninstall your anti-virus, some say just turn the protection off and other say do nothing. And because there are so many different configurations on so many different computers  any one of these may or may not work for you. However, I would say if you want to be absolutely safe then uninstall. Myself, I use Emsisoft, for most updates I do nothing, for major updates I will just turn the protection off, no issues yet.

I would use Windows Defender as my only AV on Windows 10. It has gotten better. 3rd party AVs have a hard time keeping up with Windows 10 as a service. You can check Windows Defender's rating on AVComparatives. Check percentage compromised between WD and other companies.

WinDef is *okay* if I would settle for a 2-star performer. OTOH, I would prefer the 3-star AVs -- there are several of those rated higher than WinDef.

I use WebrootSecureAnywhere (WSA) on my Win10 machine. WSA is 99.9% cloud based -- its total residency on my computer is only 25mb private bytes. Therefore I leave WSA as-is & have had zero problems when upgrading Win10.

Hi, digmor crusher, JohnC_21 & bellgamin!

Thank you all for the prompt and insightful replies! :)

With all due respect, as I also mentioned in a previous topic, I recently renewed my Emsisoft Anti-Malware license for another three years, and as such, I will continue to use it.

I will temporarily uninstall EAM on beforehand and re-install it upon completing bigger OS version upgrades in the future. B)

Thank you very much for the help! :) The issue has been successfully resolved! :thumbup2:

Just because I am going to run AVAST Free until the next big upgrade, it's a good thing doing a lot of backups with Macrium Reflect or similar. This way I can get up and running fast in case something goes south.

PS - I know WD is a great AV nowadays, but I feel it still needs improving.

Hi, eLPuSHeR!

Thank you for your prompt and insightful reply! :)

I am using Acronis True Image 2018 for the same purpose too. :thumbup2:
