Windows XP was dropped from even extended support by Microsoft on April 14, 2009, almost 10 years ago.

That tells you everything you need to know about the suitability of using Windows XP as a "general purpose" OS involving any connections to cyberspace.  Using unsupported OSes, particularly those years and years out of support, is never a good idea.

No never use XP in the modern age of the net.

Now in terms of reliable... well

Windows 7 is almost dead

Windows 8 sucks

Windows 8.1 is okay but not much better than 8

Windows 10 is actually pretty decent though I have my issues with it

There is also linux to consider as a alternative to XP

That depends, how old is your machine?
If you have xp era hardware its seriously time to upgrade, you dont need overpriced or state of the art but xp era hardware is quite old now.
If you have a post 2005 machine then you are actually fine depending on your hardware, but anything circa 2000-2005 will need to be replaced
