Firefox on mac

Troubleshooting a browser problem instructions often suggest clearing the caches - cookies, hx, etc. From my reading other posts it seems like there is a history cache and a separate history file that contains the list of web addresses you get when you click the History option on the menu bar. Is this correct? I've been saved by being able to access my browsing hx and wouldn't want to erase it.

One's browsing history and browser cache are completely separate from one another.

I routinely do cyclic cache cleanings on all browsers I use and that has no effect on my browsing history (though there are ways to clear that, too, but I have no interest in doing so).
