SOLVED : Facepalm Solution, tried a third HDMI cable, the one from my other PC, it worked, see Post 6.  Thanks.

Hello, hope someone knows a solution for this, spent hours looking for answer on internet but nothing works.

Problem

I have an LG23mp68vq-p monitor must be 2 years old now, monitor is  detected with correct type and name in display settings on another computer, with all resolutions etc available to select.   However on my current PC it is not detected, AMD control panel does not detect a device attached to graphics card. just shows 'Display divice on:HDMI' with 2 monitor profiles.  although can still display an HD image.. nothing wrong with graphics card either, plug HDMI cable into back of my LG TV and detects works perfectly. See Images at bottom: can not delete monitor2, can not run detect etc.

What happened:
Played lifeless planet on full HD settings, watched a few things on YouTube, turned off PC went to bed. Next day, blank screen, PC did not boot, although it could have done, but nothing showing on screen.  Decided to do Restart. PC did its own little shut down and restart for some reason, still no image, switched to LG, saw message about failed boot  drive, restarted, into BIOS, restarted from there.  Switch back to my Monitor, this is when problems started, Lifeless planet only showed 640x480 res.  Took another day until realised this was not game issue but system.

Uninstalled drivers using GURU3d DDU utlilty.  When uninstalled, Monitor showed single generic Pnp monitor in the  display settings, but still having issues with screen refresh.  Reinstalled drivers and back to existing problem.  When plugged into monitor, if do something like log into a profile, or bring task manager up with a ctrl alt del,  the screen goes blank and monitor message comes up there is no connetion, I have to plug back into the TV to bring up image, I can then go back to the monitor and plug in which then detects the signal and displays image.  This is so bleeping annoying, what is going on?   used older and newer versions of drivers.  So I ask again is this a registry issue, where Win 7 recognises monitor and retreives something from the registry which is corrupt?

Went through methodical trouble shooting process again this morning as follows, Summary is still same issues with grpahicsdrivers uninstalled, on safe mode start up noticed AMDKMPFD driver still being loaded, could this be an issue, as hangs in safe mode when attached to Monitor.  Seems everytime screen changes or is refreshed on monitor signal is lost.  Please note this monitor works fine on my other computer.

  • Restarted on safe mode on TV.  detected as generic shown in screen shot.
  • Switched to Monitor, shows as Single Generic, which is progress,no ghost 2nd monitor ID showing.See screenshot
  • Rebooted via MSCONFIG to safe mode on monitor.  No signal. System halts, no HD activity.
  • Switched to TV no signal detected.  Hard reset still connected to TV.
  • Disconnected internet Ran GURU3D DDU. restart system on TV
  • Shut down connect to monitor, had monitor power off. Restarted system and monitor No Signal
  • Switched to TV no signal. waited 30mins. still no signal
  • Reset PC offered safe mode prompt. Loaded full windows signal detected
  • Shut system down, Switched cable back to monitor, start up no signal detected.
  • Switched back to TV, signal detected and showed profile select screen
  • Switched to Monitor, logged in to profile, screen went blank with no signal detected.
  • Switch to TV, signal detected  desktop loading fine.
  • Switch back to Monitor, signal detected displays desktop.
  • Properties still show as generic, identical to screen shots taken at start.

Reinstalled different versions drivers, back to square 1 each time.  Monitor not being detected, shows ghost second screen which is not attached, this is listed as a mobile device,  but able to still display HD see images.

You are not going to believe this, well maybe, but I am so angry now, having wasted countless hours trying to solve this.   One of the first things I did was test another HDMI cable from my cable draw, which I think may even be new.  I even tested the original HDMI cable in XBOX and so on, worked fine,   Swapping HDMI cables in and out did not work, however, I just had one last nagging doubt, So I retrieved HDMI cable from my other PC and Oh my Goodness,  The Bleeping thing worked. Duff cables? or what?  but third HDMI cable allows detection.  Oh my.> Could swear head off now. but at least its solved. Attached File  another duff cable..png   686.69KB   0 downloads
