I slept on a waterbed for 35 years.  They are good for any way you sleep.  Recommend a wave-less unit if sleeping with a partner as the action is amplified by anothers actions.

I have had open bladder, baffled and finally the most comfortable is a string bed.  I have a hard time with standard mattresses, very few are compatible with all sleeping positions.
