I have a Microsoft Surface Pro 4 with Win 10 Pro pre-installed and activated.
I have been having the issue with internet connectivity for the past two months.
My primary mode of connecting to internet is WiFi and sometimes USB Tethering.
The issue is that when browsing the internet 15 or 20 minutes after connecting to the internet the connection drops.
Chrome indicates to check the proxy settings and the firefox is unable to display the website.
Upon checking the proxy settings I found that the option "Automatically detect settings" is turned off and the Proxy is enabled.
The proxy address is set to the loop back address 127.0.0.1.
Though I am able to make changes these settings, it reverts to the proxy as soon as the window is closed.
Upon further research I found that there is now a registry DWORD entry ProxySettingPerUser under "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings" with the value set to 0.
Upon changing this value to 1, I am able to reconnect to internet.
But this too sticks for up until the next system restart.
Taking cues from similar posts from here, I tried running multiple AV and AM scans with no real solution. The AV and AM software that I ran are:
Windows Defender - Full Scan ( No infections)
Avast Antivirus - Free Version Full scan ( No infections)
MalwareBytes - Free Version Full Scan ( No infections)
TDSSKiller (No infections)
ASWMBR (No infections)
ComboFix (No infections)
I also have tried deleting the registry entry and has had no success as the entry pop up after system restart.
It is noted that very often the InstallShieldWizard runs in the backend and does not automatically close. It pops up and keeps running in the backend until it is terminated manually.
Request your assistance in resolving this issue as it is causing a lot of problems.
