How often and in what way?

I have one laptop running Windows 10 that seems to have the occasional urge to rearrange the desktop icons, moving them all to the left side of the screen in a solid block.  I tried everything I possibly could to find the root cause, but never could and never could stop it.

I did, however, find a third-party utility that I still use on that machine as a workaround for this recurring issue:  ReIcon.   It works perfectly well, provided you remember to take an "icon arrangement backup" when you intentionally add icons to and/or rearrange your desktop so that you can go back to that arrangement.

Have a look here  to see if any of the reasons mentioned apply to you.

Hi, if you arrange your desktop as you want, then restart computer, if all icons are still where you want them, open regedit, navigate to :-

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Shell\Bags\1\Desktop] and export this key(it controls desktop, inc icon spacing according to resolution) Save to desktop, if you have a problem right click on desktop and select "refresh" after this double click on the saved reg file and allow to merge into registry. Restart computer and all should be back to how you want.
