I have been infected with any number of viruses for about 6 days now. Every day and every scan seems to list different variations. I may be practising overkill as well because I have downloaded multiple free/trial anti-spyware and anti-virus software. The ones I have trusted most in the past have been AdAware, Spybot and AVG. I have now included ewido which I understand is changing or has changed to AVG anti-spyware. And I downloaded Tauscan but I dont want it to monitor things if it is going to conflict with Spybot TeaTimer. I have System Restore disabled until this is resolved.

I have no doubt how I contracted it. I foolishly visited a KeyGen site so I guess it could be said that I deserve it.

Anyways I am continuing to get pop ups that are trying to direct me to download software. Two examples are: 'System Integrity Scan Wizard' and 'Malicious Software Removal Wizard' (it is not the Microsoft program). I also get frequently redirected to other sites while I'm surfing for other things. Most of the variants seem to be generated from an executable called 'issearch.exe found in Windows\System32. Spybot has on occasion also found Smitfraud C but not today. I don't know what else I can add at this point. If you can help me clear this mess out, I would be very grateful. Here is my HJT Log:

Hello Mattagin, and welcome to BleepingComputer. I will be handling your log to help you get cleaned up.

Please take note of the following:
1. I will start working on your malware issues, this may or may not solve other issues you have with your machine.
2. The fixes are specific to your problem and should only be used for this issue on this machine.
3. The process is not instant. Please continue to review my answers until I tell you your machine is clean.
4. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes.
5. Please reply to this thread. Do not start a new topic.

Please give me some time to look over your log and I will get back to you as soon as possible.

Thanks

Thanks KoC for your quick response. I haven't found any specific viruses yet today but I'm still getting all the pop ups. I'll be back on later today. Good Luck.

Hello Mattagin!

We need to disable SpyBot/Teatimer as it may interfere with this fix !

1) Run Spybot-S&D
2) Go to the Mode menu, and make sure "Advanced Mode" is selected
3) On the left hand side, choose Tools -> Resident
4) Uncheck "Resident TeaTimer" and OK any prompts
You can reenable TeaTimer once your system is clean.

Please download VundoFix.exe
to your desktop.
  • Double-click VundoFix.exe to run it.
  • Click the Scan for Vundo button.
  • Once it's done scanning, click the Remove Vundo button.
  • You will receive a prompt asking if you want to remove the files, click YES
  • Once you click yes, your desktop will go blank as it starts removing Vundo.
  • When completed, it will prompt that it will reboot your computer, click OK.
  • Please post the contents of C:\vundofix.txt and a new HiJackThis log.
Note: It is possible that VundoFix encountered a file it could not remove.
In this case, VundoFix will run on reboot, simply follow the above
instructions starting from "Click the Scan for Vundo button." when
VundoFix appears at reboot.

Please run hijackthis and place a check next to these entries:

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {4472E2B2-FB44-FBD4-2A58-0101EBECF47E} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\ksrpmje.dll

Please close all windows and browsers except Hijackthis and click "Fix Checked"

Reboot

Find and delete these Files/folders:
C:\WINDOWS\system32\fnbkmeb.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\ikrfind.dll

Reboot and post a new hijackthis log and the log from Vundofix

Please open hijackthis and check this line:

O20 - Winlogon Notify: winjat32 - winjat32.dll (file missing)

Please close all windows and browsers except Hijackthis and click "Fix Checked"

Reboot

Find and delete this File:
C:\Windows\System32\winjat32.dll

Reboot

I see you have Ewido installed please do this:
  • Open Ewido
  • On the main screen select the "Update" icon then click "Start Update". The update will start and a progress bar will show the updates being installed.
  • Once the update has completed select the "Scanner" icon at the top of the screen, then select the "Settings" tab.
  • Once in the Settings screen click on "Recommended actions" and then select "Quarantine".
  • Under "Reports"
  • Select "Automatically generate report after every scan"
  • Un-Select "Only if threats were found"
Close ewido anti-spyware and reboot your computer into Safe Mode.
  • Launch ewido-anti-spyware by double-clicking the icon on your desktop.
IMPORTANT: Do not open any other windows or programs while ewido is scanning, it may interfere with the scanning proccess.
  • Select the "Scanner" icon at the top and then the "Scan" tab then click on "Complete System Scan"
  • Ewido will now begin the scanning process, be patient this may take a little time.
  • Ewido will list any infections found on the left hand side. When the scan has finished, [Quarantine--if not click on Recommended Action and set it there. Click the Apply all actions button. Ewido will display "All actions have been applied" on the right hand side.
  • Click on "Save Report", then "Save Report As". This will create a text file. Make sure you know where to find this file again (like on the Desktop).
  • Close ewido.
Please post a new Hijackthis log and the log from Ewido

C:\Windows\System32\winjat32.dll was not there to delete after I rebooted from using HJT and 'Fix Selected'. So can I reboot to safe mode from here? ewido is configured and ready to go.

After I have the two new reports from ewido and HJT, can I reboot from safe mode to normal windows before posting to you?

I haven't had any more problems at all. I do believe the little beasties are gone. I thank you very much for your time and assistance. I am going to turn System Restore back on and Enable SpyBot Teatimer if that's ok.
Once again, thanks a lot. :flowers:

Please download SmitfraudFix
Extract the content (a folder named SmitfraudFix) to your Desktop.

Open the SmitfraudFix folder and double-click smitfraudfix.cmd
Select option #1 - Search by typing 1 and press "Enter"; a text file will appear, which lists infected files (if present).
Please copy/paste the content of that report into your next reply.

Note : process.exe is detected by some antivirus programs (AntiVir, Dr.Web, Kaspersky) as a "RiskTool"; it is not a virus, but a program used to stop system processes. Antivirus programs cannot distinguish between "good" and "malicious" use of such programs, therefore they may alert the user.

You should print out these instructions, or copy them to a Notepad file for reading while in Safe Mode, because you will not be able to connect to the Internet to read from this site.

Please reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following :
  • Restart your computer
  • After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, tap the F8 key continually;
  • Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu with options should appear;
  • Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode, then press "Enter".
  • Choose your usual account.
Once in Safe Mode, open the SmitfraudFix folder again and double-click smitfraudfix.cmd
Select option #2 - Clean by typing 2 and press "Enter" to delete infected files.

You will be prompted : "Registry cleaning - Do you want to clean the registry ?"; answer "Yes" by typing Y and press "Enter" in order to remove the Desktop background and clean registry keys associated with the infection.

The tool will now check if wininet.dll is infected. You may be prompted to replace the infected file (if found); answer "Yes" by typing Y and press "Enter".

The tool may need to restart your computer to finish the cleaning process; if it doesn't, please restart anyway into normal Windows. A text file will appear onscreen, with results from the cleaning process; please copy/paste the content of that report into your next reply along with a new HijackThis log.
The report can also be found at the root of the system drive, usually at C:\rapport.txt

Warning : running option #2 on a non infected computer will remove your Desktop background.
