I set up a BIOS password for an additional layer of security, but later decided to remove it.. I was in the American Megatrends BIOS menu and I erased my administrator password.

This should have erased my BIOS login but now I still have a BIOS password screen and I also cannot use my old password. I am at a standstill because my $300 tablet is now nothing but a glorified paperweight.

I have spent hours researching how to fix the issue, hours trying combination of master passwords for American Megatrends and others to no avail. I do not know what to do..

I need the master password for an American Megatrends BIOS system on a Insignia 11.6 flex tablet with Windows 10. Please help me.

You get the password dialog window when first booting the computer? This may be a hard drive password. I don't think it will work but can you access the UEFI firmware settings in Windows.

If not then you will need to contact the manufacturer of the laptop and have them install a new firmware chip but this is not a common OEM.

Is this the password dialog window you get?

Louis, I believe that is a hard reset for Android.

Edit: the hard reset may work for Windows 10 also. See the below thread.

See Reset from Startup. All data on the computer will be lost.

None of it works. When I start it is flashes American Megatrends for a tenth if a sec or whatever and immediately gives me an Enter Password screen for the bios. After 3 tries it just goes blank. No message of any sort or numbers or nothing after that. Hard resetting does not work under any instruction.

I think you will need to contact Insignia using the link I posted. They will probably need to change out the firmware chip unless they know the master password.

Funnily enough when I try that I get an error message when sending. Aw man I'll try again later.

Here's a new bit of information. I took a video and managed to stop on the american megatrends bios boot.

It says.... I'll "try" to draw it.

Yes I've been having this issue since May 19th at 11:25AM. It pissed me off so much I put it away for awhile..

Sometimes a firmware flash will solve a problem like this but the newer computers flash in Windows and not at boot. I looked at the Insignia site and I couldn't find much support regarding firmware updates. The only driver available was for Wifi.

Motherboard is EM_H8516_V2.0 after some browsing. Gonna keep posting just in case someone figures it out before I do.

In the manual for the bios from american megatrends is says to "drain the NVRAM"

BestBuy may be able to help if it's still under warranty. Insignia may also have some kind of master password they could give you if you show them proof of purchase. Good Luck.
