Malwarewipe, Anitvirus Golden, Virus Burst, How Did I Get All Of These?

Hello,

I've recently been infected with what I'm guessing was a trojan, I was told I needed to download a video codec and when I clicked the link - BAM ! About 30 pop-ups an hour, false XP system warning balloons about being infected, and nothing can be found through a antivirus scan with Windows Defender, Symantec, Spybot, or AdAware. Let's continue...

It is a good idea to print off these instructions:
This will be useful as there is a possibility some of the instructions will need to be carried out where internet access is not available.
You may also like to save these instructions in word/notepad to the desktop where they can be easily found for the same reasons as above.
A print out of the instructions would be a good reference to make sure you don't yet lost.
Also, it is important that you complete the instructions in the right order, and also that you don't miss any steps out!
If you have any queries about the process or just general questions, just ask.

Now reboot into Safe Mode.
This can be done tapping the F8 key as soon as you start your computer
You will be brought to a menu where you can choose to boot into safe mode.
Make sure you choose the option without networking support.

Once in Safe Mode, open the SmitfraudFix folder again.
Double-click smitfraudfix.cmd.
Select option #2 - Clean by typing 2 and press "Enter" to delete infected files.
You will be prompted : "Registry cleaning - Do you want to clean the registry ?"; answer "Yes" by typing Y and press "Enter" in order to remove the Desktop background and clean registry keys associated with the infection.
The tool will now check if wininet.dll is infected. You may be prompted to replace the infected file (if found); answer "Yes" by typing Y and press "Enter".
The tool may need to restart your computer to finish the cleaning process; if it doesn't, please restart it into Normal Windows.
A text file will appear onscreen, with results from the cleaning process; please copy/paste the content of that report into your next reply.
The report can also be found at the root of the system drive, usually at C:\rapport.txt
Warning : running option #2 on a non infected computer will remove your Desktop background.
Also post a new Hijackthis log.

3. Select "Install" to download the ActiveX controls that allows ActiveScan to run.
4. If running MSAS beta you may receive an alert that an IE ActiveX program requires your approval. Click "Allow"
5. When the download is complete it will say ready, click "Next"
6. Select a target to scan: Click on "My Computer"
7. When the scan is complete choose to save the results as "Save as Text"
8. Post the Kaspersky scan results in your next reply.

David,

My system seems to be back to normal, no pop ups or false system error balloons. The online scan service you reffered to me will not do anything once I click Accept, the next dialog box you spoke of never appears. I think it's because I'm using Mozilla Firewfox as a browser. Symantec and Windows Defender both show clean scans of my hard drive.

Hey there Steven,
Glad to hear the system is running better.
Let's try an alternative scanner:

Please visit Panda Online to carry out a virus scan.
Once you are on the Panda site click the Scan your PC button.
A new window will open...click the Check Now button.
Enter your personal details.
Click the big Scan Now button.
It will ask to install various content - please allow this.
It will start downloading the files it requires for the scan, which may take a while.
When download is complete, click on Local Disks to start the scan.
When the scan completes, click the See Report button.
Click Save Report and save the file to your desktop.
Post the contents of the report in your next reply, along with a new Hijackthis log.
