I tried to run adaware, spybot, housecall, panda, bit defender and mcafee stinger it does the same with all it scans for a few minutes then it shuts down the computer. i can do everything else without it shutting down. But as soon as i try to run a virus or spyware scan it shuts off.

I have windows security updates up to date.

Thanks

Hi and welcome to Bleeping Computer! My name is Sam and I will be helping you.
I apologize for the delay getting to your log, the helpers here are very busy.

Your log is clean. If you are finding that your computer shuts down whenever you run any of these scans I think the most likely culprit is overheating. When your computer gets too hot it will shut itself down as a protective measure.

I'm assuming that this is a laptop. If so, look into a cooling tray that will increase air circulation under and around your computer. Also check and make sure the fan is working and not blocked in any way, or excessively dusty or dirty.

Failing to respond back to the person that is giving up their own time to help you not only is insensitive and disrespectful, but it guarantees that you will never receive help from me again. Please thank your helpers and there will always be help here when you need it!

Overheating seems to be more prevelant with laptops, but the same holds true on a desktop machine. Check the fan.

Do you hear it running?
Is it blocked by anything?
Does there seem to be a lot of dust on it?

If you have some canned air, open up the case and try to blow out as much dust as you can. If you haven't done this in a while, you'll be surprised by how dirty it is in there.

I took the cover off a week ago and cleaned it. it didn't help it still shuts itself down. most of the time it only makes a light humming sound. once in a while it sounds loud like it is trying hard to do something. i guess i just need to replace the fan hu?
