Thank you so much for this forum. I am having a problem with my google searches. Everytime I click on a link I am redirected to a website other than where I am supposed to go. I know nothing about computer programming, but I am a good "searcher" I typed in the sites I was redirected to in google followed by virus and happened upon this forum. I've read about the hijackthis program and downloaded it and followed the instructions and have generated a log. And learned a lot along the way I might add. Here is the log, I have stopped at this point. Thank you in advance for your help.

I should also add that when I start my computer it takes about 10 minutes for my personal settings to load. It used to take about a minute or less. This problem has been going on for approximately a week fwiw.

Hey polarbearac

Update Java:

Your version of Java is now outdated. Java vulnerabilites are commonly exploited by viruses so I strongly recommend you update. Click here to download the latest version of java ( Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 5.0 Update 9 ). Please install it and then reboot your computer.

Remove the older versions of Java:
  • Click Start, Control Panel, Add/Remove Programs.
  • Delete all Java updates except J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 9
Wareout:

Please download FixWareout from one of these sites:
http://downloads.subratam.org/Fixwareout.exe
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/files/lonny/Fixwareout.exe

Save it to your desktop and run it. Click Next, then Install, make sure "Run fixit" is checked and click Finish.
The fix will begin; follow the prompts. You will be asked to reboot your computer; please do so. Your system may take longer than usual to load; this is normal.

Once the desktop loads a text file will open (report.txt), you can close it - the file has already been saved. Please post the contents of this text file (C:\fixwareout\report.txt) in your next reply along with a Hijackthis log.

How is your computer running?

Hello Jamie,

The search problems seem to be gone for now, but I have seen the problem come and go. Ill know more later today. When I turn my computer on in the morning, my personal settings still take a very long time to load. I assume I still have more work today as you asked for the hijackthis log.

thanks,

Polarbearac

Hey Polarbearac

Please print out or copy this page to Notepad in order to assist you when carrying out the following instructions.

Put Hijackthis in a Permanent Location:

Please put Hijackthis in a permanent location i.e. C:\Hijackthis. See here for instructions:
  • First put hijackthis into a permanent folder.
  • Do this first - go to C: and create a new permanent folder.
  • Example C:\hijackthis
  • This is necessary to ensure you have backups should anything go wrong.
  • Then put (or download - choose "save" not "run") the hijackthis.exe file in this folder.
  • If you downloaded a zipped HJT file unzip it to the permanent folder so you have C:\hijackthis\hijackthis.exe.
This is an excellent guide if you have any problems:Step-by-step tutorial

Unknown Files:

I can find no good or bad information for these entries, which most likely means it has a random filename. This is a very common technique amongst malware.

C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CSGAP.EXE
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\DMKGG.EXE

We need to find out what these entries are for certain. Please do the following:
  • Please go to VirusTotal or Jotti Online Malware Scanner or Virus.org
  • Copy this filename: C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CSGAP.EXE
  • Paste it into the dialog box and click Submit
  • Copy this filename: C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\DMKGG.EXE
  • Paste it into the dialog box and click Submit
  • Please copy and paste the results of the scans back into this thread in your next post.
Fix the HJT entries:
  • Open hijackthis and select the DO A SYSTEM SCAN ONLY option.
  • Place a check next to the following items:

    O17 - HKLM\System\CCS\Services\Tcpip\..\{8C869C39-CA46-41F7-9B34-A40C5973BEAC}: NameServer = 85.255.114.30,85.255.112.119

    O17 - HKLM\System\CS2\Services\Tcpip\Parameters: NameServer = 85.255.114.30 85.255.112.119

    O17 - HKLM\System\CCS\Services\Tcpip\Parameters: NameServer = 85.255.114.30 85.255.112.119

Hello,

Sorry for the delay in response but jamielaw is "out-of-town".

Delete the files listed below:

C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CSGAP.EXE
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\DMKGG.EXE

Post back with any problems (if any) you are still having.
Steven

I'm still quite the amature at this, so are you telling me to create another hijack log and check the files you indicated to fix them?

thanks

Click START>RUN then type:

cmd - then press <Enter>

Another window should open up with a black screen - type the following commands in that window and press <Enter> after each line

cd c:\

del C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CSGAP.EXE

del C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\DMKGG.EXE

exit

Then run HijackThis and create a new log and post that here.
