Have a Dell desktop and an HP laptop – have turned on Bluetooth in each and have turned on nearby sharing in each. When I attempt to share a file from my desktop to the laptop I get the message that No Contacts are available. In the settings for each PC it says that Bluetooth is turned on and the device is discoverable.

Device Manager says:
     desktop – >Dell Wireless 1705 Bluetooth
     laptop – >Broadcom 43142 Bluetooth Adapter
of course the device manager says that each is operating correctly.

I have no other Bluetooth devices attached (or even available) – so I'm not sure that the Bluetooth is even operational. Any suggestions for determining the status.

Thank you for the suggestion. (Unfortunately, it's been my experience that the Troubleshooter is more of a waste of time than anything else – it's never worked for me – – I've had better luck with Google Searches and/or Forums.

That said – I went to Settings – >updates and security – >troubleshooter – >Bluetooth and  ran it. Apparently, a problem was found because the troubleshooter said it was Fixed (did the same on the laptop)…

BUT still no joy… Continued to say No Contacts (I believe that means Nearby Sharing couldn't connect to the laptop from the desktop. {I noticed that in the Action Center when I tried to turn on Bluetooth – at the laptop and at the desktop – it said Not Connected.}

Any further suggestions?

Would it be useful for me to purchase a Bluetooth speaker (temporarily) – to see if my PCs will talk to it (i.e. see if the Bluetooth for each is working)?
