Hi there quys,
I was considering to write another tutorial on making an image of your data, but other than driveXML I am not aware of any program. If you know such program let me know, so I can write a tut on it (I use payware True Image and am not aware of an alternative).

Thanks and brgds,

Yourhighness

ties in well with me because I have just been recommended this link and perhaps someone will second that recommendation helping us both then, link is:

http://www.snapbackup.com/

also, if you are making tuts, are they up somewhere as fleas are known for their parasitic habit
everyday is a gift

Hi there,

unfortunately this tool focusses on a zip file. I am looking for imaging (freeware version of True Image so to say). The tut I have just written is here: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tutorials/backup-and-restore-data-with-cobian-backup/

You're welcome, Johannes.

I went through my saved executables (1.69 GB of recommended programs), and came across one more, you might want to check out.
I haven't used it. but if I saved it, it was recommended by someone I trust.
Can't remember who, or on what forum, because it was a few years ago.

Hey tg1911,

I ve looked at the first tool and it looks a wee bit complicated for people with little knowledge of pcs. Will try the other programme on the weekend, tho the free version only allows to make images from a smaller disk to a greater one o.O . Not quite sure what that implies. Will revert after trying out on weekend,

regards,

Johannes

Hard drive manufacturer's frequently offer a free tool to "clone" your hard drive.

Also, this thread has a link to a free copy of Acronis True Image v7: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/67950/true-image-v7-for-free/

And, here's a link to a free DOS version of Ghost 2003: http://vetusware.com/download/Norton%20Ghost%202003/?id=215

I know quite a few people who will sing the praises of Ghost - but I have no experience with it myself.

I've used Acronis since v7 (I beta test for them) and don't use any other imaging software because of it.

Also, you might want to take a look at the imaging capabilites of Vista. While I haven't tried it myself, it's supposed to take a different approach than the traditional (sector based) imaging tools.
