Hi all!

We're changing our name... Don't be alarmed! Over the next few weeks (or longer) we'll be changing our name from Foolish IT to d7x Technology so don't be alarmed, the makers of d7x and CryptoPrevent are not changing, it's still us!

We deeply regret to announce the discontinuation of CryptoPrevent's free edition.

Existing copies of CryptoPrevent will continue to provide the current protections as expected, but will not update beyond version 9.1.0.0, the final update for the free edition. You will still be able to download this final version of the free edition from 3rd party download mirrors such as MajorGeeks.com or Softpedia.com, however we will no longer offer the download from our website.

An existing installation of the free edition can be updated to the latest version at any time (without losing your pre-configured settings) by purchasing a license.

Can someone please comment on this?

Thank you very much in advance!

I don't see what there is to comment on...there has always been a paid version, I believe.

No computer-user...has a "right" to "free software" and varuiys developers today now charge for that which, at one time, may have been perceived as "free".

Hi, hamluis!

Thank you for the prompt and insightful reply! :)

I know that, however, with all due respect, the point is that the free edition of CryptoPrevent now has become abandonware, and that it as such, no longer will be maintained anymore, and to some extent, this is also a change in business model.

BTW, this is a heads-up for current and future users of CryptoPrevent Free. :exclame:

Here is the link to the announcement...CryptoPrevent free edition discontinued…

Even though the free edition of CryptoPrevent is being discontinued, users will still be able to benefit from all it's existing protection features...they just will not be able to get further updates with additional protection without purchasing a license.

Hi, quietman7!

Thank you for the prompt and insightful reply! :)

Today, I downloaded and reinstalled CryptoPrevent Free v.9.1.0.0 and will continue to use this version since I already have Emsisoft Anti-Malware and Acronis True Image 2018, and of these, all three feature Anti-Ransomware protection.

EAM is my first layer of Anti-Ransomware protection, ATI 2018 the second, and CP Free is the third. In the past, I also had HitmanPro.Alert with CryptoGuard, but had to uninstall it in favor of ATI 2018, as these two last-mentioned conflicted with each other.

It is nice that due to the way CP Free works (with Software Restriction Policies), it also features protection against a whole range of other malware, not just ransomware, and as such, it is a one-of-a-kind since manually implementing SRPs is rather cumbersome.

Thank you very much for the help! :)

Regards,

midimusicman79
