My computer startup is very slow and sometimes the screen goes dark temporarily! Programs takes awhile to start. Some don't even start anymore I have run MalwareBytes and Ccleaner but there's not much change. Any suggestions please!

If you give the specs of your pc that would be helpful!  Have you recently installed anything?  Updated drivers?

how long does it take for your post screen to come up?  and how long before the windows logo comes up to show it booting windows?

if either of those are taking a long time then it could be hardware related.  possible a bad HDD.   or just a setting is wrong in the bios.

yes please post your model number and the spec's of the build.  if you built it yourself then model number of the mobo.

I didn't actually timed it, but it's about 5-7 mins or more from powering on to succesfully log in. Here are the specs

Hi,

You have a spinning 5400 rpm disk. First ensure that your HDD health is good, use some free scan disk health tools like crystal disk

But for troubleshooting that the right way, we need to know what the system is doing during the different boot phases, to locate the delay;

Here is the steps:

  1. Download and Install windows Performance Toolkit https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-hardware/get-started/adk-install . Choose the package corresponding to your Windows version.
  2. When running the setup select only Windows Performance Toolkit.
  3. Record a trace using Windows Performance Recorder using these options:https://justpaste.it/1g4sx
  4. Compress the resulting file.
  5. Upload the boot trace on dropbox and share the link.

@zinou..I am stuck, don't know what else  to do. I have been trying to follow your instructions. I downloaded the Windows Performance Toolkit, but when I try to install it. there's just the spinning symbol and a "Not responding" message! I have been trying this all day.
The machine is just frustratingly slow....the desktop icons take forever to load...on startup, the screen sometimes goes dark for about 1 min or 2....even Google Chrome is takes eternity to load or return a result! Everything is sloooww!!

Ok,

You can try the command line instead the GUI version of the tool;

Before you run the command to record a boot trace, you need an external disk or a flash disk to store the resulting file. As I suspect a disk performance issue, I don't want to add more disk overload.

  1. Open a command line as an Administrator (Run As Administrator)
  2. Type the following command in the command line Windows: cd %programfiles(x86)%\Windows Kits\10\Windows Performance Toolkit
  3. Type the following command to start recording the boot trace: wpr -start GeneralProfile -start CPU -onoffscenario Boot -onoffresultspath X:\wpr -numiterations 1 replace the X:\ by the drive letter of your usb disk
  4. Compress the .ETL file generated under the X:\WPR path (very important)
  5. Upload the boot trace file on Dropbox or on https://www.transfernow.net/en/

I am bit confused. What exactly should I type in the command line? Is it..
                                                                                                 only cd %programfiles(x86)%\Windows Kits\10\Windows Performance Toolkit or

                                                                                         Windows: cd %programfiles(x86)%\Windows Kits\10\Windows Performance Toolkit ?
Should I press enter after the input?

Is there a space between cd and %, Windows and Kits, Windows and Performance and Performance and Toolkit? Because no matter what I input it's returning error message,eg, "The system cannot find the specified path" in the first attempt and 'Windows:' is not recognized as an internal or external command,operable program or batch file. in the second.

I am not very clear on 3. and 4. Can you explain a bit more, please.
