Hi Guys I'M New in here. I have this Hp dv2500 sitting around with a broken lcd for a while now. I recently put in a new lcd and did a fresh install of windows vista home premium since it was what was previously installed. my problem is that i cant find some of the drivers anywhere since the computer never came with disks and it did not have a recovery partition. My bigger problem is that windows update is not functioning. It keeps searching for updates all day and eventually shows the message that it is not able search for updates. Ive tried a few solution but nothing works.

 Please Help Thanks

FYI, Vista is no longer supported with Security Updates. Last Security Update was April 2017. You may be able to get updates by downloading the following two updates manually and in order. There is a BC thread showing how to update using the updates from Windows Server. Make sure you have Vista SP2 before downloading the updates.

https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=21393

https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/936003/cumulative-update-rollup-for-windows-vista

It seems HP no longer has a support page for this computer. Open Device Manager. Right click all devices with a yellow exclamation mark. Select Properties. Under the Details tab select Hardware IDs in the dropdown box. Copy and post the first line exactly as shown.

Edit: See this BC thread on hanging Updates.

Hi shyne04:

Rather than read through all 33 pages of this BleepingComputer thread, see the FAQ How to Fix Vista SP2 "Checking for Updates..." Hangs and Slow Windows Updates in the VistaForums.

The section in that FAQ titled How Do I Fix These "Checking for updates..." Hangs? has a link to step-by-step instructions posted on page 1 of m#l's thread Updates not working, it has been searching for updates for hours that should get Windows Update working again.

Your Welcome, and thanks for the update. Just to confirm, was it the two updates I linked to that allowed you to get updates?
