1.  You can get the Windows 10 updates without any Microsoft Account.  One can use just their local windows account.  

 

 

2.  Microsoft account is needed for Microsoft Services.  MS Office, Outlook mail, OneCloud, or other stuff, you need a Microsoft Account.
