Hello,

I am in the process of building a custom PC. Space/airflow is limited. Heat is a non-issue.

I still would like to disable the nvidia chip from the mobo entirely, to stop it heating up / save energy and potentially remove the mammoth heatsink.

My question is, do motherboards depend on the nvidia chip in 100% of scenarios?

Will the mobo stilll boot should it be desoldered and a dedicated GFX present?

That depends on what nVidia chip you're talking about. If it's something like a Northbridge/Southbridge/GPU combo then it's fundamental to the operation of the mainboard.

It's a combo chip, performs Southbridge functions (e.g. USB) Northbridge (e.g. RAM), as well as video and sound. The board certainly won't work without it.
