Hi all!

After some persuasion, my dad now has Emsisoft Emergency Kit and is quite satisfied with it, as it works well as an on-demand malware scanner.

However, there is no way for me to convince him to upgrade to Emsisoft Anti-Malware, which I BTW have myself. Instead, he insists on having Comodo Internet Security Free for real-time AV/AM protection.

And as such, my question is as follows;

Does EEK update to a newer major version without having to re-download it?

Thank you very much in advance!

Regards,

EEK includes an Update button and the screenshot provided below indicates it will advise if the software is up to date.

Whether it updates a newly released version along with the database signatures, I'm not sure since I never used EEK.

Be aware that EEK database updates are not incremental like EAM so if you do not update often it will take much longer to update...download and install the entire signature database file. GT500 has advised here that...

If it's been more than a day since the last time you updated EEK, then downloading a fresh copy of it, extracting it over the copy you have installed, and then updating it will be faster than waiting for EEK to redownload the entire database.

Hi, quietman7!

Thank you for the prompt and insightful reply! :)

Hopefully, Emsisoft will continue to announce every newer major version of EEK on their Security Blog (approximately two times a year IIRC), and then I can just tell my dad about it so he can update.

He prefers that I send him a download link by Email, so I think he is comfortable handling EEK on his own, although he oftentimes complains about the Yahoo Toolbar that Comodo bundles, which many users over at the Comodo Forum certainly do as well.

I have advised him to download and install Unchecky, which albeit unchecks the Yahoo Toolbar during the manual installing process of CIS Free, but Unchecky cannot help whenever CIS Free automatically upgrades to a newer major version, as the YT then also gets automatically re-installed.

Obviously, however, he could have just changed to another free AV like Sophos Home which does not bundle any PUPs, but he has already tried avast! and AVG, and as such, he refuses, because he prefers to remove it manually since he claims it does not affect every web browser either.

And as my dad now is retired, a former work colleague has advised him to install Adblock Plus in his web browsers for simplicity, since it is available for most web browsers, so there is no chance for him to agree on using uBlock Origin in at least the web browsers that the latter supports, which would have been better.

Thank you very much for the help! :) The issue has been successfully resolved! :thumbup2:
