Hi,

I'm considering using Emsisoft Emergency Kit as a secondary on-demand malware scanner on a Windows 7 PC.

I notice that the download size is 305 MB, which seems large when compared to a similar tool such as AdwCleaner, which is only 7.8 MB to download.

Why is the download size large?  Is it due to the Emsisoft Emergency Kit download containing the malware definitions (but the AdwCleaner download doesn't)?  Or are there other reasons?

Thanks.

I have 663 MB with EEK. Never really looked at this as being something to be concerned about.

Emsisoft Emergency Kit (EEK) is a portable second opinion malware scanner which includes the Emsisoft Anti-Malware dual-scanner (anti-virus/anti-malware and database signatures) that requires no installation or Internet connection to use. The Kit includes the Emsisoft Anti-Malware Scanner complete with graphical user interface. EEK like EAM specializes in removing potentially unwanted programs (PUPs), adware, browser hijackers and unwanted toolbars but it will also scan for and remove other types of malware.

The full version of EAM is also a large download, hence the large size for the EEK download.

Hi, F1Help!

The included version of Emsisoft Anti-Malware is a fully functioning 30-day trial version featuring real-time multi-layered AV/AM protection, which automatically reverts to the free version for on-demand malware scanning when the trial is over. Continuing to use the real-time protection requires purchasing a license, and there is a 12% discount if buying a 2-year license and a 20% discount for a 3-year license.

Thanks for your replies.  This is the response I got from Emsisoft Support:

There is an offer to download and install Emsisoft Anti-Malware that you'll likely see inside Emsisoft Emergency Kit, but they are not bundled.  Emsisoft Emergency Kit is 100% portable.  It is also rather large since because of its portability, both 32bit and 64bit executables and signatures must be present.

I tried running Emsisoft Emergency Kit yesterday and it ran fine as a portable app.  The signatures are included in the EEK download (one of the main reasons for the larger download size) and they update online too.  There is an option to have a 30-day trial of Emsisoft Anti-Malware but this is not included in the actual EEK download.
