Hopefully you'll get a good result. The Amazon listing leaves a few things unclear. Despite being described as a tower, the technical details list the parameters of the Small Form Factor variant - presumably that's just an error. Also the Hp specifications only list a 2 core 4 thread 3.2 GHz i5, the Core i5-650 as supported, but being a refurb, it could have had a quad core fitted. Hope so.

Edit: actually, I don't see any indication if that series was updated to support Sandy Bridge, which would be needed for a 3.2GHz Quad core.

Yes, dual core would be much less suited to the purpose.

Only way to be sure is to have the original poster give us a speccy.

If it comes up as having the Core i5-650 then they should return it ASAP and complain to amazon for the mislabel.

The lack of USB3 for backups may be negated (not sure) by adding the product below,  If it does work it would boost backup speeds..

Other then that you did very well!!!

As long as it functions well with the PreSonus, it should be fine. I am really not into the heavy stuff any longer to the point that I have to look at all the details. About all I do now are web searches, financial, medical research on various subjects, and recording. So, I'll should be Ok.

I have a question that just resurfaced. I have noticed in Curr Ports and TCP viewer a lot of unknown connections that are in the Time/Wait state. Whois says they belong to amazonaws. I just received several "promotional" and give-away emails generated by amazonaws. Anyone know what these are. I Googled them but found no definite answers. When I say "a lot", I mean 20 - 50 connections on various ports and different Remote IPs.

This was a preloaded machine that seems to be loaded with Amazon crap, if in fact Amazon is doing this it seems extremely shady and possibly a legal issue!  Before you load any programs I feel it is more than IMPORTANT to run PCdecrapifier!  I can not stress this enough, if you do not do this you will be plagued with garbage for a long time and also may have other issues.  I believe the cleaning by PCdecrapifier will rid you of this crap!

https://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/pc-decrapifier/

There is plenty on Google about this crap!  IMO very Sleazy of Amazon!!!

I would also take the steps in this link.  https://malwaretips.com/blogs/remove-s3-amazonaws-com/

This infuriates me, I from now on would not recommend buying machines from Amazon!

Hard to say its because its from amazon as its a refurb so it could have been done by the people who sold it.

Amazon has no say over refurbs, they only have a say on their products.

Also to ensure you did not get ripped off i would use speccy:

https://www.ccleaner.com/speccy/download

Here is how to give us a screenshot

I am just making sure you got the right hardware

This is on the PC i've had for 3 years. The new one is not in yet. I sent a shot to Malwarebytes and they did not know what they were. They sent a bunch of scans to run but found no malware nor adware. Do you know what this amazonaws is. Google just gave vague info on it.

"The main thing it is used for is in my small recording studio"

This is what concerns me.  If I am doing any type of video editing or sound processing, I am not going to buy the low end budget computer from a Walmart.  Even if this program you are using is not CPU or memory intensive, it would be best to get a better machine.  If you look around, you can find an Intel Cor I5 or I7 laptop for a decent price.  You don't have to spend a thousand dollars, but $300 is probably not a good range for a working laptop.
