I have an Acer netbook for the last 14 months.  Suddenly today, the touchpad barely works at all.  I checked the control panel, nothing strange there, nothing disabled.  There is no mouse attached.

This is the strangest hardware failure I have ever seen.  Also, for most of the time,  the mouse cursors/pointers are invisible and stuck to the bottom left on the screen. I can hit CTRL to reveal location of mouse pointer.  The point settings for the default Windows pointer set.

I would go to Device Manager...and uninstall the touchpad drivers...then reboot.  On reboot, they will reinstall automatically.
