Can anyone give some advice about how I might be able to use QR codes for my particular situation?

I teach kids/youth and I've used a coupon system (toy money/coins/paper bills).  They basically earn "money" when they accomplish tasks, assignments, good behavior, or do good deeds etc.

But I've been trying to figure out a way to move to a "cashless" society.  I was thinking it might be possible to use QR codes for this to basically replicate/function like a real world bank card or any sort of card that can store credits/funds.

Is there a way I can use QR codes so that I can give students credits/points in their account rather than having to keep handing out physical "play money"?
