Greetings;  I tried simply putting the dell software cd in my desktop. A symbol shows up in the upper right hand corner an when I double click it I get an array of different selections with one of them being "install" so I double click on that and I get a list of stuff and clicking that just changes to other lists of things but no evidence of downloading,

I think you would need to go to the Lexmark web-site and download the Mac drivers from there. The CD you have may contain Mac software but is more likely a Windows install disc.

You definitely need to download the Mac software/drivers. It won't work with the Windows drivers/software.

Granted I am unsure how well it will work under a Mac, I know OSX has had a lot of under the hood changes with certain compatibility.

I mean it still has CUPS (the common unix printing system as OSX is loosely based on Unix) so you could try something there, not sure if it will make the whole unit work though as cups mainly is for printers not scanners.

Worse comes to worst you may need a new printer/scanner, sucks i know as if its worked for this long it will suck to give it up but sometimes compatibility is something that can be an issue on a non windows system.

For as much clout apple gets they still dont have as much hardware support as windows does, heck I even think linux has better hardware support these days (but thats thanks to open drivers something that apple really lacks on)
