Trying to find alternatives to notepad

First I tried notepad++ but first off, the settings were just immensely complicated to deal with.


I like a simple text editing software but that also has features.


Atom++ is really nice, but it takes way too long to start up.


I'm not a programmer and I don't require many features although they're nice. But I haven't been able to find a text editor that actually works out for me as an alternative to notepad, which is a bit too basic.
