I had to do a recovery on my windows 10 upgrade. I had upgraded year last  from windows 7 to 10. Now I can't get my printer working right. It will not print anything on Wordpad or Notepad.  It  also will copy but not scan. I remember there was something I needed to get it to work with windows 10 but can't seem to find out.

you need to load the printer software onto your computer again from the CD,

if you dont have the install CD you can download the driver package from the manufacturers website,

what make and model is the printer?

is it connected wireless?

Just go to the HP web site and download the software and drivers (for Windows 10)

https://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/selfservice/hp-photosmart-c4600-all-in-one-printer-series/3739148/model/3831654

Do Not Connect the USB until the software tells you to. Disable any anti-virus or anti-malware software before you start the install, and then re-enable when your done

I remembered  somewhere when I upgraded from windows 7 to 10  it said something about windows 8 . The printer never worked with all the functions right after I upgraded to 10. I could never scan to computer.  My friend tried to connect us networking and I ended up deleting the network group. Could that have also messed up the printer when I did the in the recovery. I had tried to system restore but it wouldn't restore said had missing files. So I called  Microsoft  and their tech got the computer to do a recovery. Now printer problem....

unplug your printers USB cable from the computer

go into your control panel then go to "programs and features"

uninstall every program you see there that says "HP" or "hewlett packard"

restart your computer

go to this link and download the driver package......

https://www.support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/selfservice/hp-photosmart-c4600-all-in-one-printer-series/3739148/model/3831654

after downloading it run that software and follow the instructions,

DO NOT plug the printer into your computer until the software TELLS YOU TO DO IT!

I wouldn't worry about Antivirus unless the printer asks you to disable it.  Some HP's will actually tell you to leave AV's on.

1. Unplug the USB Connection if it exists.

2. Go to Printers and Scanners, Click on the printer and Select Remove Device.

3. Get rid of the old software from Programs and Features.

4. Restart computer.

5. Shutdown the Printer for one Minute and then Power up.

6. Download new software and go through the setup, and as said above, don't connect the USB Cable till you told to.

7.  if it won't connect Wireless with the HP Software, go through the Network Wizard on the Printer to get it connected.

You may need to Reset the Printer to Defaults if all else fails.

HP Print and Scan Doctor for Windows can also be helpful believe it or not LOL.

Should be easy if it is not Wireless.
