Does anyone know where I can find a copy of skype for windows which will download to my hard drive? I prefer that it does not come from the microsoft store.   thx

Nope, that comes from the store and it does not install on HDD that i know of.

Where is it located on my HDD then? I use to find it in program files and i dont see it now. it use to create  a shortcut on desktop and it no longer does. Why plz? I dont want skype to web. I want the HDD version plz.

Can someone tell me if skype is run as a web based app now? I cant d/l on my pc anymore?

According to M$, skype is web based only now. Time for an alternative for me or would you guys trust a web based version?

Not a fan of the webbased. Just because of the feature set.

You can try downloading an older version and see if it will update. This is how I kept MSN messenger past it's use by date. Loading old versions till I couldn't anymore.

You can download and install Skype using Ninite.   It will install on your hard drive:

Skype is webbased?  I do not understand, since I still thought that Skype is a program that can be installed onto the computer.

Would a portable edition of skype be what you could use?  There is or was available a portable form of Skype from portableapps.com/apps, and I have it "installed" on my Windows Vista laptop computer.   You can run the installer without actually using the portableapps platform program, and just install to some dedicated folder you create, if you want.

just had to run the.exe file in win 7 compatibility mode to be able to d/l it to HDD.
