My sons computer was working fine. He called and said he couldn't get in the bios, or boot safe mode. Changing the graphics card, and using the internal graphics port didn't make a difference. I'm guessing that the mother board went belly up since the internal port didn't work. Is there something else that could be checked?

Thanks

If you can't boot to Windows, try this:  http://www.carrona.org/strpdown.html

The problem is that the screen is blocky without respect to what software is run. It's some sort of a hardware problem not software.

And the stripdown procedure allows you to figure out which piece of hardware is to blame.

I suspect the video card as the most likely problem - but some of the other possibilities are:

- connection between the video card and the motherboard

- overheating of the video card (or the system)

- a hardware problem with the video card

- a hardware problem with the cable to the monitor

- a hardware problem with the monitor

- a hardware problem with the motherboard

- software issues with the video card, the chipset, the storage controllers, or other related devices

- and a lot of other things that (to me) are less likely than those above.

The most likely thing to try (at this point) would be another video card.

If you don't have a spare one on hand, you may want to purchase one from a shop that'll let you return it for your money back (if it's not needed).
