OneDrive interferes with computer and applications

I changed a password for OneDrive account for a family member who uses Windows 10.  Soon we found that Microsoft Windows 10 OR OneDrive forced the computer to take login through the password to M.S. account instead of for password for the computer's Local Account; and that M.S. Excel was not working correctly.  Excel was no longer listing Recently Used files, and was trying but failing to open XLR files through Adobe Reader pdf application.  


I set the machine to take login again through local account and re-established the intended local password; and although Recent Files in Excel all still empty, we CAN drive through File Explorer to see our Excel files paths, and then open the intended file (XLR type) through Excel.  


Not sure if everything can be placed back to normal, but adjusting anything about OneDrive was an unexpected risk.  This may be something for Windows (10) users to know about.
