Is  there any advantage to either USB 3 over sata on a backup drive?

USB 3.0 and eSATA have a very similar speed eSATA edges it by a little, I would probably give the advantage to which ports you have available to you. For example; My desktop has 3.0 ports, and no eSATA - 3.0 wins. My Laptop, however, has eSATA and 3.0 ports - but 3.0 would still win because I still wouldn't be able to use it on both my machines.

 

My two cents anyways.
