Ok so I made the mistake of sending a very large KML file to recycling (long story, thought I was deleting it from my thumb drive but instead it was the Google folder)- making matters worse by permanently deleting it in the recycling bin. Quickly found out that removes all pinned history and saved travel from Google earth. Fortunately I was able to recover several KML files by using this:  https://www.easeus.com/resource/recover-deleted-recycle-bin-files.htm

Downloaded them to a separate thumb drive. However, when I open anyone one of them I get an error message on Google Earth (see pic) I know this is not an issue because when I save "places" on my thumb drive it opens in Google earth without issue under "temporary paces"

Computer is a 2014 ASUS laptop and has windows 10 with classic shell.

Is there any hope of fixing this or are the files permanently damaged?
