I have a samsung R730 laptop with windows 10. For some reason when i press the enter key it enters the number 5. The enter key is still working but it adds 5 on to the end of whatever i type, For example when i press enter now it types the number 5 but still moves to the next line, The only thing i have done is a big windows update just now, otherwise i have no idea as it has never done it before. I hope i have posted in the right section

Do you get the number 5 when using the enter key with the on screen keyboard?

try all the keys and see if there are any other keys doing the same thing.

2 things can happen here:

1 the keyboard matrix system is bad - no fix replace keyboard

or

2 the decoder chip on the motherboard for the keyboard had gone bad.

most of the time it will be a bad keyboard in a laptop.  replacement keyboards are around $35US on ebay for your model laptop.

At first it was just the enter key. I rebooted and it seemed ok. Now half of the keys on the right hand side of the keyboard aren't working at all

I guess the next step would be installing a new keyboard hoping it's that and not the decoder chip mightywiz posted. Be very careful the Zif ribbon connector on the motherboard.

It looks fairly straight forward to replace but i have never done anything like that before. They cost about £50 to buy online including delivery. I assume a pc repair shop would charge alot more

Yes, a PC repair shop would charge more. They should give you a free quote.

thanks but i am in the UK though so delivery would be expensive probably. I might take it to the repair shop to get a quote and then if it is the keyboard i can do it myself
