I would recommend that you read this article, and others, pinned in this Forum (Answers to Common Security Questions - Best Practices), by quietman7, one of the foremost computer security experts here at Bleeping Computer.

Just as a single example, but used on multiple computers (all running Windows 10):

1.  Windows Defender - primary antivirus and security suite.

2.  Malwarebytes Anti-malware Free (for occasional scanning)

3.  Zemana Anti-malware Free (trying it on a machine where I didn't load Malwarebytes - both "cover the same territory")

4.  Spywareblaster

5.  Under my various commonly used and, thus, "protected" web browsers:

          a) uBlock Origin (an ad blocker with numerous other security related features)

          b) HTTPS Everywhere

6. MOST IMPORTANTLY:  Safe web surfing habits.  I never click through on pop-ups that "come out of nowhere,"  click on links I don't recognize, open e-mail messages that don't pass my basic sniff test [starting with having a very good idea of their source or, absent that, warning from a source I do know and trust that something is coming to me indirectly from a source I don't know or trust (that also looks real), etc., etc., etc.].

I cannot recall when anything other than uBlock Origin has actually flagged a single thing on my computer.  It's definitely been well over a decade, perhaps two, since I ever had malware or a virus infection on any computer I own.  That is the direct result of #6, above.  Items numbered 1 through 3 are reactive, they help you clean up if something happens.  Item number 4 is defensive and prophylactic - it prevents you from even getting to sites on the internet known to be riddled with spyware.

Hi Midimusicman79! Thanks for mentioning Acronis True Image 2018!
As community manager for Acronis I would also add free Acronis Ransomware Protection.
