Hi all, I've been trying to get rid of this irritant, and I'm not having much luck. I've tried the fix that you posted, a few times. I also went thru the other post, the one before you are to post your hijack this log, and did all the scans. A lot of programs seem to find it and delete this spyfalcon thing, but when I reboot, there it is again in my system tray and in my logs. The popup in the system tray used to say that my firewall has been turned off, but now it says that norton has been disabled. But it always takes me to the windows security page. Here is my log, any help that is received is much appreciated.

Let's continue...

It is a good idea to print off these instructions:
This will be useful as there is a possibility some of the instructions will need to be carried out where internet access is not available.
You may also like to save these instructions in word/notepad to the desktop where they can be easily found for the same reasons as above.
A print out of the instructions would be a good reference to make sure you don't yet lost.
Also, it is important that you complete the instructions in the right order, and also that you don't miss any steps out!
If you have any queries about the process or just general questions, just ask.

Now reboot into Safe Mode.
This can be done tapping the F8 key as soon as you start your computer
You will be brought to a menu where you can choose to boot into safe mode.
Make sure you choose the option without networking support.

Once in Safe Mode, open the SmitfraudFix folder again.
Double-click smitfraudfix.cmd.
Select option #2 - Clean by typing 2 and press "Enter" to delete infected files.
You will be prompted : "Registry cleaning - Do you want to clean the registry ?"; answer "Yes" by typing Y and press "Enter" in order to remove the Desktop background and clean registry keys associated with the infection.
The tool will now check if wininet.dll is infected. You may be prompted to replace the infected file (if found); answer "Yes" by typing Y and press "Enter".
The tool may need to restart your computer to finish the cleaning process; if it doesn't, please restart it into Normal Windows.
A text file will appear onscreen, with results from the cleaning process; please copy/paste the content of that report into your next reply.
The report can also be found at the root of the system drive, usually at C:\rapport.txt
Warning : running option #2 on a non infected computer will remove your Desktop background.
Also post a new Hijackthis log.

Hello there,

It is a good idea to print off these instructions:
This will be useful as there is a possibility some of the instructions will need to be carried out where internet access is not available.
You may also like to save these instructions in word/notepad to the desktop where they can be easily found for the same reasons as above.
A print out of the instructions would be a good reference to make sure you don't yet lost.
Also, it is important that you complete the instructions in the right order, and also that you don't miss any steps out!
If you have any queries about the process or just general questions, just ask.

Please disable SpySweeper's real-time protection, so it will not interfere with the fix:

Open SpySweeper and click Options | Program Options.
Uncheck Load at windows startup.
Over to the left click Shields.
Uncheck Home page shield and Automatically restore default without notifiction.

Start HijackThis, close all open windows leaving only HijackThis running. Place a check against each of the following if still present:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [SpyFalcon] C:\Program Files\SpyFalcon\SpyFalcon.exe /h

Click on Fix Checked when finished and exit HijackThis.
Make sure your Internet Explorer is closed when you click Fix Checked!

Click on start, then control panel, and then double-click on add/remove programs. From within add/remove program uninstall the following if they exist by double-clicking on the following entries:

SpyFalcon

Now reboot into Safe Mode.
This can be done tapping the F8 key as soon as you start your computer
You will be brought to a menu where you can choose to boot into safe mode.
Make sure you choose the option without networking support.

Please delete this folder:
C:\Program Files\SpyFalcon

Reboot back to normal mode now.

Please download Ad-Aware SE Personal and install it.
If you already have Ad-Aware SE, please configure it as indicated below.
If you have a previous version of Ad-Aware, please uninstall your current version and install the newest version SE 1.06.

Run Ad-Aware, and click Check for updates now.
Select Configurations (click the Gear wheel at the top) as follows:
General Button > Safety & Settings > Check (Green) all three.
Tweak Button > Cleaning Engine > uncheck "Always try to unload modules before deletion".
Click Proceed.

To start the scan, Click > "Scan Now" at left.
Select "Search for low-risk threats".
Select "Perform full system scan".
Click "Next".

When the scan has completed, select Next.
In the Scanning Results window, select the "Critical Objects" tab.
Right-click on the screen and choose "Select all objects".
Click Next to remove the infections found, and click OK to the prompt.
Restart the computer.

Malware like this normally never comes alone and there are probably infected files left on your computer.
Please visit Panda Online to carry out a virus scan.
Once you are on the Panda site click the Scan your PC button.
A new window will open...click the Check Now button.
Enter your personal details.
Click the big Scan Now button.
It will ask to install various content - please allow this.
It will start downloading the files it requires for the scan, which may take a while.
When download is complete, click on Local Disks to start the scan.
When the scan completes, click the See Report button.
Click Save Report and save the file to your desktop.
Post the contents of the report in your next reply, along with a new Hijackthis log.

hey, here are the next two logs. I'm still getting the system tray icon popping up when I restart/power up the computer. Also there was no spyfalcon folder in program files, and I am showing all the hidden files. Thanks again.

Please download Combofix to your desktop.
Doubleclick combo.exe to launch the application.
Follow the prompts that will be displayed on the screen.
Don't click on the window while the fix is running, because that will cause your system to hang.
When finished, it should produce a log, combofix.txt.
Post this log in your next reply together with a new hijackthislog.

Am I suppposed to restart or shut down my comp after each time we do something new? The only reason I ask, before when I tried to get rid of this junk, I'd do a log from HJT and the junk would be gone, but when I rebooted later, the popup in my system tray was still present. I'd do another HJT log, and sure enough the junk was still present. So far today, I haven't rebooted at all. Again, thanks for the help. Here are the logs.

Hey there vonSLAYER.

You need to reboot after certain steps, so you can start by rebooting now.

Download smitRem and save the file to your desktop.
Doubleclick it and choose install. This will create a new folder on your desktop with the name smitrem.

Now reboot into Safe Mode.
This can be done tapping the F8 key as soon as you start your computer
You will be brought to a menu where you can choose to boot into safe mode.
Make sure you choose the option without networking support.

Open the smitRem folder, then double click the RunThis.bat file to start the tool. Follow the prompts on screen.
Wait for the tool to complete and disk cleanup to finish.

Please delete this file:
C:\WINDOWS\iun6002.exe

Please open notepad and and copy and paste next bold in it:
(don't forget to copy and paste REGEDIT4)

REGEDIT4

[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Shared Tools\MSCONFIG\Startupreg\Alcmtr]

Save this as "fix.reg" Choose to save as *all files and place it on your desktop.
It should look like this: Posted Image
Doubleclick on it and when it asks you if you want to merge the contents to the registry, click yes/ok.

I want you to clean your cache and cookies from your internet explorer.
There are a few infected files which need to be removed from your system.

Close all instances of Internet Explorer .
Go to your control panel and open "Internet Options".
Click on the "General" tab.
Click the "Delete Cookies" button, then the "Delete Files" button.
When prompted, place a tick in the "Delete all offline content" box and click OK.

Also, please clean other Temporary files and Empty the Recycle Bin

Go to start and click on the "run" button.
Type the following in the fox --> cleanmgr and click ok.
Let it scan your system for files to remove.
Make sure only Temporary Files, Temporary Internet Files, and Recycle Bin are checked.
Press OK to remove them.

Right, now I want you to describe exactly what you see as this is starting to baffle me.
What does the system tray icon that's popping up look like?
When you click on it where does it take you?
Please post the contents of smitfiles.txt which is present on your Homedrive (C:\ in most cases).

Please set your system to show hidden files; please see here if you're unsure how to do this.
Can you also tell me if there is a folder on your desktop called "access"? (Under the account 'Geoff Richards')

David

Hey, the popup in my system tray says " your computer might be at risk. Symantec antivirus corporate edition is turned off. Click this balloon to fix this problem." When I click on it, it takes me to windows security center. The popup disappears quickly. I couldn't figure out how to post a pic, I took a screen shot of it. Here is the log you asked for. The popup was still there when I rebooted this time. Thanks. oh the access folder is on my desktop, it was a folder for a course my wife was taking, I looked and it's empty.

Ah I see, this popup is actually a legitimate popup from Windows.
When your AV is turned off, it will notify you and recommend you turn it back on.
You really need to turn your AV on or else you will not be protected against threats.
Did you purchase Symantec? Has the subsciption run out?
You may need to replace it with another antivirus if the old one will not work.
AVG and Avast are excellent, free antivirus programs..
Never install more than one antivirus on your system - several together can cause problems and decrease performance.

How is the system running now, baring in mind that popup is legitimate.

As far as I know, my Norton is already on, I looked and it says it is enabled. Before, that little popup used to say my firewall was disabled, but it was always on as well. And it took me to the same security center box as well.

As for everything else, every time I turn on my comp I do a HJT, and there is no sign of the junk. Thanks.

If you open the security center and click on the "antivirus" rectangle box, you should see it's red.
Click on the "recommendation" button and put a tick next to the box at the bottom.
That will stop the popup and let windows know you wish to monitor your AV yourself.
Although this will stop the popup, you should look into whether your AV is really working.
Try an update and tell me what happens. Reboot and see if the popup stops now.
