I've got a Lenovo desktop with WIN7 that says it can't update because the program isn't loaded??  Asks for a reboot but remains the same fault.  Just started happening out of the blue and a restore back to last update doesn't cure it.  Any ideas?/  THX

Try the Troubleshooter first.
In the search box, type Troubleshooter > Find and Fix Problems > System and Security > Windows Update

Microsoft has a Windows Update Readiness Tool that tries to fix corruption in the Windows Servicing Store.

I'm not sure what program Microsoft is referring to. Perhaps the Windows Update Agent is corrupted.

Outside of the above, that's all I've got. If the above does not work or there are no additional responses the SysNative forum for Windows Update is a good place for answers.

Is that really what the (error) message says in it's entirety?

Does it really say:

the program isn't loaded

Or does it really say something else you might clarify?

The mediocre teacher tells. The good teacher explains. The superior teacher demonstrates.

I've tried all the links and downloaded all the programs and it still comes up with  "service not running"  .   Multiple virus scans and malwarebytes  didn't clean anything that would allow it to run.  Going to Lenovo to get an install disk for this 4 year old unit and try a repair.   Thanks to all for your help and suggestions.

Install disk duh. Temporarily change the setting to ‘Never check for updates (not recommended)’ .
