I can't seem to boot into Safe Mode. I press and hold the F8 key and all I get is a blue window asking me which device I'd like to boot from. (?)

Howdy,
When I want to boot into safe made I gently tap the F-8 several times right at start up instead of holding it down.

Dennis

There's a virus going around (called VirusBoost, I think) that has these symptoms. I'd suggest doing a free online scan at http://safety.live.com/

Oops! I've got some eye problems and may have read your post wrong the first time.

It sounds like you're getting the PopUp Boot menu like I have on my system. That comes from pressing the F8 key too soon.

In order to boot into Safe Mode, you've gotta hit F8 when the initial boot (the black screen stuff) finishes and before the "Windows is starting" stuff appears. There's actually a small delay built in, but it may take a bit of trial and error before you get the timing down pat.

lol Thanks. I'll give that a go. Seems a very odd way to operate it. I'll have to practice my button pressing timing!! ;)

Just start tapping it as soon as the computer begins to boot and before Windows tries to start.
