Open your device manager
(To open Device Manager, click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel. Double-click System. On the Hardware tab, click Device Manager.)
Look to see if you have any yellow or red warning icons in any catagory but especially in optical devices.
If you do, update the drivers.
If that doesn't work, delete the device, reboot, and let Windows find and reinstall it.
That may or may not be the solution but it is the first place to start.
