I have a problem with my computer!!!

I have a problem with his new computer. I asked help to the assistant. My screen wasn't showing anything. The assistant asked me about cursor of screen. But the I said that I don't see anything. After a while the assistant found to look for problem in own monitor. He asked me about a power indicator to look on the reason on the other hand. But the caller did know nothing, because I have little knowledge about computers. Then the assistant said me to I found some cables behind the monitor. When I found the cables the assistant asked me about plugged securely but I asked that there aren't light in his office. Finally the assistant said that computer broke down. I haven't money. What will I be able to do? Does my computer all hardware sucks?

who or what is "assistant" that you speak of?
