Hello all

I have an issue with Firefox as of late. Firefox will not load a single site on my computer, but Internet Explorer 7 will work just fine. I have a portable Firefox on my flash drive which loads just fine, but it does not make sense any the Firefox that is installed on my machine does not work.

I have scanned my system numerous times with Ewido, SpyBot, Ad-Aware, NOD32, AVG, Windows Defender, TrendMicro and Kaspersky. all of them showed no threats. Does anyone have any idea what it could be? I am attaching my hijackthis log in hopes that someone can help me out with this problem.

Thank you very much in advance!

I have an issue with Firefox as of late. Firefox will not load a single site on my computer, but Internet Explorer 7 will work just fine. I have a portable Firefox on my flash drive which loads just fine, but it does not make sense any the Firefox that is installed on my machine does not work.

I do not see any malware in your log. Sometimes, a Firefox profile can get corrupted. When this happens, you need to create a new profile. See
Firefox Profile or How To Manage Profiles. If that does not solve your problem, then I suggest you do a clean reinstall of Firefox.

To do a Firefox Clean Reinstall:
  • Uninstall OpenOffice in Add/Remove. (Click ”Start” > “Settings” > “Control Panel” > “Add/Remove Program”s).
  • Search for Mozilla Firefox and click Remove.
  • Click OK until you exit the program.
  • Go to the Program Files (“Start” > “My Computer” > “Local Disk (C:)” > “Program Files”). Check to make sure that the folder is gone.
  • Make sure that you have the folder option, show hidden files activated. (If needed, How to show hidden files in Windows
  • Go to Documents and Settings > (user) > Application data. (Click My Computer” > “Local Disk (C:)” > “Documents and Settings” > (user) > “Application Data”.)
  • Search for and Delete the OpenOffice folder. (The folder contains the profile and it remains when you uninstall OpenOffice so that when you reinstall or update, etc. the choices you made originally are still there; e.g . extensions, themes. That is why you need to delete when you do a clean reinstall.)
  • Press the Del (Delete) key.
  • Download and install OpenOffice 2.03 (or latest version).
Step 1

A Firewall is an essential part of computer security and you do not appear to have one running on your system. It is important that you have a firewall in addition to the Windows SP2 firewall. Do not attempt to run two software firewalls since like running two antivirus programs, they will possibly cause problems and conflict with each other. There are a few firewalls available for free that appear to be good and easy to use:Comodo Firewall
Jetico Personal Firewall Beta
Jetico Personal Firewall
Outpost Firewall Free
R-Firewall
Sunbelt Kerio Personal Firewall (Free)
Zone Alarm Free Firewall
Step 2
  • Please place HJT into ITS OWN PERMANANT FOLDER.
    • You can do this by going to My Computer (Windows key+e).
    • Double click on C:
    • If the folder is hidden, click on show the contents of this folder.
    • Right-click on a blank space in the right column and select New > Folder
    • Name it HJT (C:\HJT\HijackThis.exe
    • Move HijackThis.exe into this folder.
    • When you run HijackThis.exe from the C:\HJT folder and have it Fixed checked, it will create a backup file of modifications to use which are easily accessible if restoring any files is necessary.
  • If needed, HijackThis Folder Tutorial
Another way to do this is: Please download HijackThis Self-installer
  • This is the easiest way to install HijackThis to your computer
  • This is a complete installer that installs HijackThis on the computer to C:\Program Files\HijackThis.
  • It makes an entry in the start menu.
  • It allows you to have a shortcut on your desktop as well.
  • HijackThis is currently at Version 1.99.1 released on 16.02.2005.
  • It is important that you uninstall any previous versions by using Add/Remove programs in your control panel before installing a newer version.
Step 3

To help prevent further infection, please download SpywareBlaster SpywareBlaster helps to:
  • Prevent the installation of Active X-based spyware, Ad-Aware, browser hijackers, dialers, and other potentially unwanted software.
  • Block spyware/tracking cookies in Internet Explorer and Mozilla/Firefox.
  • Restrict the actions of potentially unwanted sites in Internet Explorer.
Step 4

Please download the ATF-Cleaner ATF-Cleaner features include:
  • Cleaning of all user temp folders, administrator only can use this feature.
  • Cleaning of the Java cache, which seems to be harboring more and more malware.
  • Cleaning the cache, cookies, history, download history, visited links and saved passwords. (You have the option of checking no if you want to save your passwords)
  • For Firefox or Opera
  • Click Firefox or Opera at the top and choose: Select All.
  • Click the Empty Selected button.
  • NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click NO at the prompt.
Let’s run ATF-Cleaner to ensure no malware is hiding in temporary folders and for general computer cleanup to free space on your computer.

Step 5

Please let me know how your computer is behaving.
