Hello all,

I consider myself an experienced user and I ran a file which I knew I shouldn't have. I was hastily trying to get my work done and needed to convert some files. I thought it was installing a 3rd party program (which had no reviews online). My computer immediately started displaying classic malware symptoms. I restarted the computer immediately. It was start playing random videos and advertisements and the computer would run incredibly slow. I ran Malware Bytes antimalware which found a few threats and quarantined/deleted them. The computer was only running a slight bit better but still completely unusable. The videos were gone but I could still hear the audio. After about 2 minutes after start up, all disk space resources would be 100% in use.

I have a Windows 10 so ComboFix didn't work. HijackThis would not start up. The rootkit prevented me from running most malware programs and made entering safe mode a pain. The only way I could access safemode is by going through msconfig to set it to always start in safe mode. I attempted to run a few different scanners such as Rkill which found nothing and RogueKiller which found threats and removed them but not thoroughly. The symptoms remained. Finally I was able to fix the major issues using MalwareByte AntiRootkit. I will post the logs below. My computer has been running basically back to normal since this scan. I also ran scans on a few different antiviruses (AVG and Trend House Micro). Don't worry, I am not running multiple AVs on my computer, I deleted them as they didn't find much.

Anyways, I am just hoping to have my logs analyzed by someone more experienced to make sure things check out. My HiJackThis started working after running MBAR and the logs seem odd to me but I haven't use HJT on this computer lately. If there are any recommendations you guys can throw my way, I would appreciate it!

Thank you for this great community :)

Hello, Welcome to BleepingComputer.
I'm nasdaq and will be helping you.

If you can please print this topic it will make it easier for you to follow the instructions and complete all of the necessary steps in the order listed.
===

ATTENTION: System Restore is disabled
Turn System Restore On for Drives in Windows 10
http://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/4533-system-protection-turn-off-drives-windows-10-a.html
===

Just to make sure that all has been removed I suggest you read and run this program as suggested

Run this Malwarebytes Anti-Rootkit.

Follow the instructions in the thread below. Make sure to download the MBAR linked in it. Let me know if you're not able to launch it and run a scan.

https://forums.malwarebytes.com/topic/198907-requested-resource-is-in-use-error-unable-to-start-malwarebytes/

Before you run the program make sure you follow the instructions under Section 5.
5. Unselect sectors and system below. Hit the scan button.

If you manage to run a scan, delete everything it finds, and then copy/paste the content of the "mbar-log-TODAY'S-DATE.txt" log that is located in the MBAR folder here after.

When completed and after a restart of the computer run this fix.

Press the Windows key + r on your keyboard at the same time. This will open the RUN BOX.
Type Notepad and and click the OK key.

Please copy the entire contents of the code box below to a new file.

The location is listed in the 3rd line of the Farbar log you have submitted.

Run FRST and click Fix only once and wait.

The tool will create a log (Fixlog.txt) please post it to your reply.

Please let me know what problem persists with this computer.
===

p.s.
The restriction on Windows defender will be removed by the fix.
Make sure it's enabled now.

Windows Defender (Disabled - Up to date)

If not run the Msconfig and remove the restriction set with it.
-----

p.s.
HijackThis is no longer supported and not ready for your Operating system.
I suggest your remove via the Control panel > Programs > Programs and Features.
Use the Farbar Recovery Scan Tool from now on to report problems.

Hello nasdaq,

So MBAR only did a search of my drivers and found nothing. Here are the requested logs. As I said, my computer has been running smoothly since the first MBAR scan, but I can't help but feel there may be lingering malware just because of the extent of the earlier problems.

Thank you so much for your time!
