Hi arance and welcome to Bleeping Computer

You got some infections...

Please rename HijackThis.exe to Scanner.exe
Then post a fresh HijackThis (scanner.exe) log to here.

Then we'll continue.

Hi again, we'll continue

Disable SpySweeper's realtime protection, it may interfere with our cleaning
  • Open Spysweeper and click on Options
  • Choose Program Options and uncheck "load at windows startup".
  • On the left click "shields" and then uncheck everything.
  • Uncheck "home page shield".
  • Uncheck "automatically restore default without notification".
  • Exit the program.
Please download VundoFix.exe to your desktop.
  • Double-click VundoFix.exe to run it.
  • Click the Scan for Vundo button.
  • Once it's done scanning, click the Remove Vundo button.
  • You will receive a prompt asking if you want to remove the files, click YES
  • Once you click yes, your desktop will go blank as it starts removing Vundo.
  • When completed, it will prompt that it will reboot your computer, click OK.
Note: It is possible that VundoFix encountered a file it could not remove.
In this case, VundoFix will run on reboot, simply follow the above instructions starting from "Click the Scan for Vundo button." when VundoFix appears at reboot.

Please download SmitfraudFix (by S!Ri)
Extract the content (a folder named SmitfraudFix) to your Desktop.

Open the SmitfraudFix folder and double-click smitfraudfix.cmd
Select option #1 - Search by typing 1 and press "Enter"; a text file will appear, which lists infected files (if present).
Please copy/paste the content of that report into your next reply along with the contents of C:\vundofix.txt and a new HiJackThis log.

Note : process.exe is detected by some antivirus programs (AntiVir, Dr.Web, Kaspersky) as a "RiskTool"; it is not a virus, but a program used to stop system processes. Antivirus programs cannot distinguish between "good" and "malicious" use of such programs, therefore they may alert the user.
http://www.beyondlogic.org/consulting/proc...processutil.htm

NOTE: Do not run any other options from SmitfraudFix until I tell you to do so!

Hi again, we'll continue

You have this Ultimate Defender installed. The program is suspicious and I recommend that you uninstall it, more info here. If you wan't to keep the program, skip the green steps.

You should print these instructions or save these to a text file. Follow these instructions carefully.

Download and install ewido anti-spyware 4.0
  • Open ewido anti-spyware
  • Click on the Update icon at the top of the window
    • Click on the Start update button
    • Wait for the update to download and install
  • Click Guard
  • Click under "resident shield is"
  • Change it from active to inactive
  • Quit the program, well use this later.
Download ATF Cleaner by Atribune to your desktop.
Do NOT run yet.

Create a new folder named HijackThis to C-drive. Move HijackThis.exe into that folder.

Then, make your hidden files visible:
  • Go to My Computer
  • Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options
  • Click the View tab.
  • Checkmark the "Display the contents of system folders"
  • Under the Hidden files and folders select "Show hidden files and folders"
  • Uncheck "Hide protected operating system files"
  • Click Apply and then the OK and close My Computer.
Create a new folder named HijackThis to your desktop. Move HijackThis.exe into that folder.

Before we'll continue I would like you to do something for me...
I need you too upload a malware file for further inspection.

Go to http://www.uploadmalware.com

Copy the following to the "Topic Where File Was Requested": http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/66512/winlogon-hook-infection/

File(s) To Submit:

Click "Browse" on the 1. field.
Browse to the following file and click the file with your mouse, press "Open"
C:\WINDOWS\system32\winqgn32.dll

"Comments Or Further Info:" Type the following, VundoFix didn't remove this

Then, click on Send file

Open Control Panel -> Add/Remove programs -> Remove all the of the following programs if found:

Ultimate Defender

Stop the following processes using Task Manager (press ctrl+alt+del, select the Processes tab, highlight the first process in the list and click End Process). Continue through the list (one at a time) until all processes have been ended. If something isn't found, please continue with the next process in the list.

pvmodule.exe

Run HijackThis, click Do a system scan only, and check the box next to each of these entries if still present. Close all other windows and press Fix checked. If something isn't there, please continue with the next entry in the list.

Hi again, it is looking really good now
How is`the computer running ?

There is this one leftover...

Run HijackThis, click Do a system scan only, and check the box next to each of these entries if still present. Close all other windows and press Fix checked. If something isn't there, please continue with the next entry in the list.

O20 - Winlogon Notify: winqgn32 - winqgn32.dll (file missing)

Then reboot the computer and run a new scan with HijackThis. The entry that you just fixed should be gone now. Please let me know if it isn't

Now you can remove SmitFraudFix and VundoFix.

Now you can enable SpySweeper again:
  • Open Spysweeper and click on Options
  • Choose Program Options and check "load at windows startup".
  • On the left click "shields" and then check everything.
  • Check "home page shield".
  • Check "automatically restore default without notification".
  • Exit the program.
Now you can clean Ewido's Quarantine:
  • Open Ewido
  • Click Infections
  • Click Quarantine tab
  • Click Select all
  • Click Remove finally
  • Close the program
Then you should update your Java to the latest version (5.0 update 9)
  • Start
  • Control Panel
  • Add/Remove Programs
  • Delete the old Java, J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 6
  • Then we'll get the latest version of Java -> LINK
  • Scroll down to Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 5.0 Update 9
  • Download & install it
Now you can make your hidden files hidden again.
  • Go to My Computer
  • Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options
  • Click the View tab.
  • Checkmark the "Display the contents of system folders"
  • Under the Hidden files and folders select "Show hidden files and folders"
  • Check "Hide protected operating system files"
  • Click Apply and then the OK and close My Computer.
Then, please let me know how the computer is running :flowers:

Ok looks clean now...
You're welcome

You should remove the old java; J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 6 via Control Panel, Add/Remove Programs if found

You should scan the external harddrive with eg Ewido and Norton.
The guard.exe belongs to Ewido Anti-Spyware, it is legitimate :flowers:
Does it give you some error when you try to remove that folder , there might be some files in use...?

Then if you wan't, you can more virus scans.

Eg Kaspersky is a good scanner -> Kaspersky WebScanner

Click on Kaspersky Online Scanner

You will be promted to install an ActiveX component from Kaspersky, Click Yes.
  • The program will launch and then begin downloading the latest definition files:
  • Once the files have been downloaded click on NEXT
  • Now click on Scan Settings
  • In the scan settings make that the following are selected:
    • Scan using the following Anti-Virus database:
    Extended (if available otherwise Standard)
    • Scan Options:
    Scan Archives
    Scan Mail Bases
  • Click OK
  • Now under select a target to scan:Select My Computer
  • This will program will start and scan your system.
  • The scan will take a while so be patient and let it run.
  • Once the scan is complete it will display if your system has been infected.
    • Now click on the Save as Text button:
  • Save the file to your desktop.
  • Copy and paste that information in your next post.

Hi again, not all of the listed objects are infections.

The real infections were inside the system restore, clean those by doing the following:
  • Click Start, click All Programs, click Accessories, click System Tools, and then click System Restore.
  • Click to add a check mark beside Turn off System Restore on all Drives, and click Apply.
  • When you are warned that all existing Restore Points will be deleted, click Yes to continue.
Restart your computer normally.
Then we'll enable system restore again.
  • Click Start, click All Programs, click Accessories, click System Tools, and then click System Restore.
  • Uncheck beside Turn off System Restore on all Drives, and click Apply.
  • Close the window
Now that you are clean, please follow these simple steps in order to keep your computer clean and secure:
  • Use ATF Cleaner
Download and install ATF Cleaner. Clean your temporary files & folders with it regularly.
  • Use Ad-Aware
Download and install Ad-Aware. Update it and scan your computer regularly with it.
  • Use Ewido

  • Keep your systen up-to-date
    Visit Windows Update regularly.
  • Keep your antivirus and firewall up-to-date
Scan your computer regularly with your antivirus.
