Hello,

I have been receiving help from usasma for a while to try to trouble shoot the BSOD's I've been getting. Which can be found here: https://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/659645/fresh-install-win10-fails-to-boot-first-time-eventviewer-0xc0000001/

Sadly, it's got to the point where usasma is suspecting a hardware issue and has asked me to make a new thread here in hope of getting someone to advise who knows the ins and outs of hardware to hopefully get to the bottom of my issue.

I ran various testing software for hardware troubleshooting before being referred to this sub-forum, which was Seagate Tools (HDD Health Check), FurMark (GPU Stress test). However when I tried to test my PSU using  OCCT program on PSU Test - manual it starts for 2 seconds then stops. When using 'Automatic' it does the minute startup, then stops immediately after. In this program it displays my 12Volt Rail to only be producing 11.18volts but when I go into the BIOS and view the Voltages it displays 12.11Volts so I'm not sure if the program isn't accurate but my PSU isn't exactly old.

My current rig with the issue:

PSU:

(Bought 21 December 2015)

Corsair 750 Watt HX750i Fully Modular ATX PSU

Mobo:

(Bought 02 December 2015)

MSI Z97 GAMING 5 Motherboard

CPU:

(Bought 02 December 2015)

I7-4790k @ 4.00GHz

CPU Cooler:

(Bought 02 December 2015)

Corsair H100i GTX

RAM:

(Bought 21 December 2015)

16GB (2 x 8GB) Vengeance® Pro Series DDR3 1866MHz C9 Memory Kit

GPU:

(Bought 05 December 2012)

ASUS GTX 670 4Gb DirectCU II

Storage:

(Bought 14 March 2016)

M.2 256Gb Intel SSD6

(Bought 21 December 2015)

Samsung SSD 850 Pro 128Gb (Boot Drive)

(Bought 21 December 2015)

2x 2TB Seagate Barracuda Green 3.5-inch 5900RPM

Monitor:

(Bought 03 August 2014)

2x Asus VX239H 23" Widescreen LED Monitor

Any help in solving my hardware issue would greatly be appreciated. :)

Regards,

RedArr0w.

Let's take a look :).

Please download MiniToolBox  , save it to your desktop and run it.

Checkmark the following checkboxes:
List last 10 Event Viewer log
  List Installed Programs
List Users, Partitions and Memory size.

Click Go and paste the content into your next post.

Also...please Publish a Snapshot using Speccy taking care to post the link of the snapshot in your next post.

Go to Piriform's website, and download the free version on the left.  Click Download from Piriform.com (the FileHippo link requires an extra click). Or if you want to use a portable version of Speccy (which doesn't require installation), click the builds page link and download the portable version. You will now be asked where you want to save the file. The best place to put it is the Desktop, as it will be easy to find later.

After the file finishes downloading, you are ready to run Speccy. If you downloaded the installer, simply double-click on it and follow the prompts until installation is complete. If you downloaded the portable version, you will need to unzip it before use. Right-click the ZIP file and click Extract all. Click Next. Open up the extracted folder and double-click on Speccy.

Once inside Speccy, it will look similar to this (with your computer's specifications, of course):

post-33068-0-86653600-1480692866_thumb.j

Now, at the top, click File > Publish Snapshot.

Click Yes > then Copy to Clipboard

Now, once you are back in the forum topic you are posting in, click the ADD REPLY or REPLY TO THIS TOPIC button. Right-click in the empty space of the Reply box and click Paste. Then, click Add Reply below the Reply box.

I'm not a big fan of the PS testers software, like you experienced, they aren't very accurate and are not compatible with every configuration.  As a hardware engineer, I prefer the hands on method of using a voltmeter to measure those voltages.  I do see that with the high powered hardware that the 750 watt PS may not be enough and the basis for random faults, errors and BSODs.

On a side note, whether it may or may not help...

your I7-4790 is running @ 4.0 ghz, the native speed for that processor is supposed to be 3.6 ghz. Although it is only a slight over clock, were you aware of this and this can affect your memory too. Try running your pc at stock speed

My CPU is the I7-4790K variant, which is the 4.0Ghz native speed, no?

Intel's spec sheet for my cpu:

https://ark.intel.com/products/80807/Intel-Core-i7-4790K-Processor-8M-Cache-up-to-4_40-GHz

I've never 'overclocked' any hardware in my bios.

You are correct, it is the i7 4790 (without the k) that runs @ 3.6ghz

What shall I try next? Or just wait for some more help?

Many thanks.

A lot of faults with MSIDDRS.EXE, try uninstalling the MSI software for the motherboard. Do not uninstall any drivers

Edit: Also, I've noticed that your  Seagate: ST2000DL003-9VT166 Hard drive status  from Speccy shows a warning.

Speed:  5900 RPM

Features:  S.M.A.R.T., AAM

Max. Transfer Mode:  SATA II 3.0Gb/s

Used Transfer Mode:  SATA II 3.0Gb/s

Interface:  SATA

Capacity:  1863 GB

Real size:  2,000,398,934,016 bytes

RAID Type:  None

S.M.A.R.T Status: Warning

Looks like your using an old  drive, RPM 5900  (Sata II)

Disconnect that drive and see if you get any more BSOD's

Hello Joe C,

Many thanks for your reply.

I have done as you advised and uninstalled all MSI Software.

I have also disconnected the Hard Drive in Question.

I shall post back soon to let you know if my BSOD's stop happening or not.

P.s. I started a RMA Request with Corsair yesterday for my PSU and it got approved! So I should have a band new PSU within 3-5 days, so that will at least rule out the problem with my 12Volt rail not providing enough juice.

many thanks

Not too likely they'll give you a brand new drive, expect a refurb

Hi Joe,

Sorry, just to confirm - I meant the PSU has been RMA'd due to the 12volt rail only showing as 11.17volts (So I should be getting this soon)

I've also disconnected that hard drive you reported as having a potential issue: "ST2000DL003-9VT166"

However, after starting my machine after that I had another bluescreen. :( (I have attached this minidump file in a zip for investigation)

Many thanks for your continued support.

Just another BSOD mini-dump that I had today when turning my PC on.

Still getting them, despite disconnecting the 'failing' HDD in question...

Could a low voltage 12 rail really cause these BSODs?

Thanks.

Hello,

My RMA replacement arrived today, and after replacing the old one with the new I booted (Exporler kept on starting and crashing  then it BSOD again) rebooted and Speccy is still showing the +12V rail as 11.176 V. (Despite it being a brand new PSU!)

So I'm fairly certain now it's not the PSU at faut here.... (Oh dear, what a waste of time getting it RMA'd :ranting: )

So, as I've now ruled out the PSU and the 'faulty' HDD (as it's not connected and still getting issues) does anyone else have any suggestions?

I think I will run memtest tonight, to see if it's related to my RAM.
