Coping clone to a smaller SSD drive
Acronis True Image WD Edition software (It said 2016, but looks like 2018)

os = win10-64 fully updated
Disk 0, Source drive = WD1003FZEX-00MK2A0 (AT [c:] 100GB
Disk 2, arget drive = Intel SSDSC2BW240A4 – 240GB
https://imgbox.com/I0zFLDlg

problem …
Win10 drive would not boot, need to copy its clone back on to original drive.

Get error using Rescue Media Builder or the win Acronis True Image WD Edition software
Keep getting error … https://imgbox.com/IuZE8S81

This says can copy to smaller drive“Source disk volumes can be cloned to the target disk “as is” or resized proportionally. It is possible to clone a larger disk to a smaller one, provided that the smaller hard disk has enough capacity to fit the contents of the larger disk. “
https://kb.acronis.com/content/56634

How can I copy to this smaller drive ?

Thanks

I just helped my buddy clone his hard drive with Acronis. He had a 512 gig going to a 1 tb. It would clone, but left 1/2 of the new drive 'unallocated'. Finally used Acronis to make his active partition as large as possible, he now has 899 gigs. Maybe you can repartition your larger drive into 2 smaller drives, that way you can clone to a smaller SSD. Don't know if it will work, but that's what I would try.

Use Minitool Partition Wizard { Copy Disk Function }.

It doesnt matter what size Drives are just that the Target drive can fit the Source Drives = C:\ Drive and System Reserved + Recovery Partition.

I Dont know how you also have another Recovery Partition of 707 GIG ???  as per Imgbox.  Doesnt look right to me .

Then again im not a whiz with Win 10.

A quick Goggle shows some with 3 and another with 4

Partition 1 Recovery 450 MB 1024 KB
Partition 2 System 100 MB 451 MB
Partition 3 Primary 232 GB 551 MB

And......

  1. 450MB Recovery
  2. 100MB EFI System (Hidden from disk management)
  3. 16MB MSR
  4. The rest is your C: Drive

Anyway  i would Disconnect any other drives in the System and only have 2 Drives Connected - Source and Target Drives.

Using Minitool you

Select Copy Disk Function.

Highlight the Partitions on the Source Drive { Source Drives = C:\ Drive Partition and System Reserved Partition + Recovery Partition }.

And they will be the Copy to - Target Drive.

Then you need to "Click Apply"

And then run the Task.

Swap out the Drives and Reboot off the SSD to see if it works in booting.

If it fails on the SSD you still have the Original drive as its working to just refit and boot.

Im not an expert with Win 10 , but as you have not had many replies i have added my method , as i have had no issues with WIN 7 / 8.1 in using Minitool to Clone to another Drive , regardless of their Sizes - Bigger / Smaller , as long as target Drive accomodates the Original Size.

Others may still have some input and further methods , but you can only try - nothing lost nothing gained.

I've only used author web sites, oldversion.com, oldapps.com, filehippo.com, source forge, and a very few others.  I do not know filepuma -- others will have to weigh in.  Check oldversion, oldapps, filehippo first.  PartitionWizard.com no longer has the 9.x version?

Thanks again RolandJS

None of the sites seem to have Minitool Partition Wizard free v9 ...

I'll wait a bit to see if others weigh in ... http://www.filepuma.com/download/minitool_partition_wizard_free_edition_9.0-9311/

Sorry about that. But when I click the Download this version green box I do not get redirected like you did. I was able to download the pwfree91.exe file.

Edit: I was able to pull the direct download link for v9.1. You can scan the file in your AV and at Virus Total to verify it is clean.

If you still have issues with versions , just download the latest from from the HomeSite https://www.partitionwizard.com/download.html

Whether it is more powerful or not or debatable is not in question , it will do what you require.........END.
