I don't recall ever having trouble with this sort of thing before, although when I have in the past tried to reduce "bleep intensity" I have failed.

Now after a OS reinstall, every time I download a file, I immediately have this high level audio signal.

So bad that my wife can't sleep if I happen to be working in an adjacent room.

I use both Opera & Chrome as my browsers & my OS is Win 10.

In the system tray I note my speakers are set at 20% which is fine for listening to audio files. It's also very easy to adjust down.

In know I should not have to ask, but I find that with Win 10 nothing is simple, & to solve most issues I usually have to spend a while Googling. In this case that has not worked, probably too hard to ask the right question.

Please help.

Thanks

Hi, I don't know of a windows notification that plays a sound when a download completes. However there is a chrome extension that does this (if using chrome to download with, settings, more tools, extensions. Could also apply to Opera.

Thanks for the quick response.

I should have been more precise in describing the unwanted behaviour:

1) The issue is apparently limited to the Chrome browser & Opera does not exhibit any such behaviour.

2) Completing a download does not in itself cause the loud audio indication.

3) The unwelcome noise is generated immediately after a download is saved.

Unfortunately I can't see what settings cause this.

Again thanks

Opera:

I eventually located notifications, only took about 15 mins & of course searching for the term notifications was fruitless.

This seems entirely a normal approach for MS.

Anyway all the off selections available were already set to off.

Now what?

I have just used Opera and Chrome and I do not get this kind of sound (no sound at all) on my system.

Hi peterlonz!

As you feel the audio issue might be coming from your Chrome browser, it can't hurt to follow the guideline in the picture to turn off your Chrome sound notifications and see if the audio signal stops. (I keep my notifications 100% blocked)

Post back if this solves the problem.  :)

Chrome on my Win 19 system no longer has an advanced settings option, at least not one I can find

So I am unable to "Allow or block notifications from all sites".

I do recall seeing & using advanced settings on previous occasions so I am baffled by this?

I am using the latest Chrome version on the newest build of Windows 10 and I still have the advanced settings option.

I, like Rocky, also still have Advanced Settings.  When unexpanded they are at the bottom of the settings tab:

Attached File  Advanced_Unexpanded.jpg   21.48KB   0 downloads

Attached File  Advanced_Expanded.jpg   34.7KB   0 downloads

I also have absolutely nothing, sound wise, after saving a download and never have.  This screams an extension or an install problem with Chrome.  You can eliminate the former by starting Chrome with extensions disabled.

Hi , did you read my post #3?

I can assume that the OP and I and Brian has because that is why the OP tried to get to the advanced settings of his Chrome. In response to his inability to access the advanced settings, Brian and I just checked and confirmed that the advanced settings are still accessible in Chrome.

Of course the OP is also having that problem in Opera, which I also have installed on my Windows 10 system. I tested my Opera with a few downloads but did not get the notification.

Hi, no the OP mentions:-

"The issue is apparently limited to the Chrome browser, & Opera does not exhibit any such behaviour."

You only access settings (not advanced settings) for " More tools" then extensions.
