I have a new laptop with Windows 10 as the OS, and it also includes a free trial for Office 365.  I thought I would try it out, but since I would only use Word I won't pay for a subscription, and find a free word processor program elsewhere.  My only concern about activating Office is my privacy.  Am I risking future incursion by Microsoft getting a foot in the door after the free trial?  I would also appreciate any recommendations for any of the free word processing programs available online.

In this situation, I can not see how privacy can be an issue. Of course I am a long time Office/Outlook user, going on 15 years. My Office 365 subscription is invaluable because of the Outlook feature.

Of course it is your call.
